It is worth noting that Zverev and Medvedev did not meet at Major until their 19th Lexus ATP Head2head conflict. When it finally happened, the occasion didn’t disappoint in the semifinals of the 2024 Australian Open.
Medvedev dropped twice from two innings and later scored two points from a breakout in the fourth set tiebreak to a stunning victory inside the Rod Laver Stadium. This is Medvedev’s third five-win victory in the 2024 Australian Open, his second set victory in the second set after his second round against Emil Ruusuvuori.
Medvedev’s victory over Zverev in Melbourne is a “two halves story”. The third-placed first-time service percentage increased from 50% of the first two sets to 71% of the determiner, and he won 22 more titles in the final three sets, compared to the first two sets.
Medvedev said of his four-hour, 18-minute victory: “I’m a little lost, but in the third set I said that if I’m going to lose this game, I’m going to be proud of myself.” “I want to fight until the end, if I lose, I lose. I manage to win, and I’m very proud.”
Rolex Monte Carlo Master 2023, third round, Medvedev d. Zverev 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7)
In the second straight match in the competition, Medvedev rose from the scene to the edge of the scene from the Razors. In this case, Medvedev saved two match points, twice denied his opponent’s attempt to provide matches on Monte Carlo clay.
Zverev hit 5-4 in the second and third sets, but had to wait 6/5 in the last game of his first match point. His second match point was served on 7/6 and when Medvedev beat a tense rally, the solid match of the third seed finally proved the difference in the late night marathon.
“It was a crazy game,” Medvedev said of the game, with 11 service interruptions in the peaks and valleys of the two players.
“He served twice in the game and he probably should have done better, but it’s also a clay court. I’m trying to watch a lot of tennis before going to this game and one thing I’ve seen is that you can come back at any time, that’s not the majority. One ticket doesn’t count as much, so once someone gets a little nervous, the game can turn around in a second.
BNP Paribas opens in 2023, fourth round, Medvedev d. Zverev 6-7 (5), 7-6 (5), 7-5
Medvedev extended his winning streak to 17 games in this Indian Wells Odyssey victory. Losing a tense opening, the finalist rolled his right ankle, but recovered Zverev in a three-hour, 16-minute thriller.
After all 10-point breakout points against him in the second set, Medvedev produced a stunning defensive crush in the game and ultimately forced the decision-maker. Zverev denied his first attempt to win 5-4 in the third round, but Medvedev made no mistakes on his second chance.
The 27-year-old finished the game with 40 winners and strengthened his baseline game to absorb the power of Zverev.
“When I twisted [my ankle]I thought I would stand up well,” Medvedev said of the dramatic fall, “but then the pain started very quickly, so I was like, ‘That wasn’t a good sign. ‘I don’t feel like I’m breaking it, but I feel like one of the ligaments is a bit hurt so I don’t think I can’t play. ”

Medvedev and Zverev won two hours and 35 minutes in a team match in Turin in a match in the 2021 season before Medvedev became famous again for his fifth straight win against the Germans.
Both entered the round-robin record with a 1-0 win after Medvedev beat Hubert Hurkacz, while Zverev led Matteo Berrettini before the Italians were forced to retire due to injuries.
The couple also met on the loop stage at the 2020 season finale, with Medvedev successfully absorbing the Germans’ thump. In a tense third set win, Medvedev found a deep return on his backhand to lead 6/4, but Zverev raised both match points as Medvedev tried to serve and shooter. ATP Cup 2021, SF, Medvedev d. Zverev 3-6, 6-3, 7-5

Medvedev swept Diego Schwartzman and Kei Nishikori in two games of the year’s opening ceremony, while Zverev defeated Denis Shapovalov before losing to Novak Djokovic in three sets.
Medvedev played patiently under the closed roof of Rod Laver Arena, playing patiently, and he overcame the fierce attack from Zverev by adjusting his return position, standing deeper behind the baseline in the breakout in the second group. In a tense decision-maker, Zverev’s double malfunction gave Medvedev a 6-5 late break, from where he won, winning five breakpoints in the final service match to win.
“When you beat Sascha, you’re 6-3, 3-2, and a lot of the time you’re going to lose the game,” Medvedev said. “But I need to leave a chance for the team first, for the country. I’m just trying to stay there, maybe a little tight. I just did my job and I’m so happy about that.”
Miami Open by ITAU 2018, second round, Zverev d. Medvedev 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (5)
Miami was a special place for Zverev at the beginning of his career. It was the location where he first won the ATP Masters 1000 victory in 2015 and his first win at the elite level in 2017, when he beat the top-seeded quarter-finals seed Stan Wawrinka.
In 2018, his second round victory against Medvedev became a springboard for further success, and the German continued to reach the final (to ISNER).
Zverev leads Medvedev with the 2-0 Lexus ATP Head2head series, combining strength with Guile. The 20-year-old fired 25 winners in the competition and caused trouble with backhand slices. He forced Medvedev down and ruined his own pace to make mistakes in the third set victory, including a forehand at the match point.
“He is one of the best servers on the tour,” Zverev said. “In his serve, everything can happen. I’m glad to take the opportunity in the tiebreak and win the game in 6/5.”
Zverev competed for the 200th tournament and his victory improved to 126-74.
