McTavish, 22, is a restricted free agent (RFA), and the contract negotiations took long enough that he missed the first part of the camp. Now that it is resolved, he will report it as soon as possible.
McTavish passed 2030-31 signature
McTavish not only signed a bridge deal, but also signed a bridge for a long time and signed a contract in 2030-31. It was a big development for the Ducks, which was closer to the end of the reconstruction than it was at the beginning.
Ducks general manager Pat Verbeek issued a statement after signing:
“Mason is a key part of our team and we are pleased to have a long-term agreement that reflects his importance to our future,” Verbeek said. “He is a skilled, physical and competitive player who plays the right way. Mason has made a significant impact at a young age and we believe he will continue to grow into a top player as we move towards continued success.”
McTavish was selected third by Anaheim in the 2021 NHL Draft. Last season, he set a career high with 22 goals, 30 assists and 52 points. He also won the best 180 shots of his career. He has scored 60 goals and 80 assists in the club’s 229 NHL games, scoring 140 points.
After the announcement of the deal, he also issued a statement to NHL.com:
“Today is an exciting day for me and my family, putting my long-term future into the Anaheim Ducks,” McVish said. “I believe in the direction of this organization and the direction of our team in the locker room. We are building something special and I want to help the team take the next step to become a solid playoff contender and ultimately a championship team.”
McTavish will now join the Ducks in training camp and hopes to develop with another career year last season.
