Anaheim Ducks Sign Mason McTavish to Six-Year Deal

Mason McTavish agrees to new deal

The long-awaited deadlock is over, between the Anaheim Duck and Mason McTavish. Ducks and McTavish have agreed to a six-year contract worth $42 million, announced Saturday afternoon. The deal’s AAV is $7 million.

NHL Rumor: Mason McTavish’s conversation with Anaheim Ducks doesn’t have a lot of action

In the early hours, Lebrun tweeted that there was no movement on both sides, but he stressed that a call could change.

All Mactavish did was a phone call

A call came and the two sides were able to reach an agreement. As recorded, Mason McTavish and his camp are seeking a long-term (7 to eight-year) contract for $7 million AAV. Meanwhile, Ducks GM Pat Verbeek is looking for this mid-term (four to five years) deal in the $6 million AAV range.

Both sides have made efforts. McTavish’s camps fell in semester, while Verbeek and Ducks rose in dollar numbers. If you don’t do something on Saturday, it’s very likely that it will last for a long time.

NHL Rumor: Anaheim Ducks Want to Keep Mason McTavish

Verbeek insists he has not traded Mctavish. They see him as the future of Anaheim. However, McTavish is not sure what his role is and needs to be sure he will be a first-tier or second-tier center. Now he has this contract.

“Mason is a key part of our team and we are excited to have a long-term agreement that reflects his importance to our future,” Ducks general manager Pat Verbeek said in a statement Saturday. “He is a skilled, physical and competitive player who plays the right way. Mason has made a significant impact at a young age and we believe he will continue to grow into a top player as we move towards continued success.”

Furthermore, despite the threat of quotation sheets, the team was reluctant to do his job at Pat Verbeek for him. Assuming a team will offer over $7 million in bonuses to the microphone each season, the ducks will match because they have cap space to match it. Not to mention, the team will not give up an unprotected first-round pick in 2026 drafting Gavin McKenna’s idea.

McTavish is now getting everything Troy Terry and Mikael Granlund do with Anaheim Ducks.

More Mason Mactavish Comparability

So, all the talk about rising hats and players getting more hats, McVish spent less time than some of his same draft classes, what does that say?

NHL Rumor: Anaheim Ducks is not crazy about Mason McTavish Bridge Deal

McTavish recorded 140 points (60 goals and 80 assists) in 229 professional NHL games. Additionally, in the 2024-25 season, he set a career high in scoring (52), goals (22) and assists (30). He only gets better every year.

So the Ducks know the importance of getting into the camp with new head coach Joel Quenneville, who will instill new systems. The longer the standoff lasts, the more it hurts players and teams. Remember, Verbeek has high expectations for the team this season.

With Mason McTavish now on the board, attention turned to Luke Hughes of the New Jersey Devil and Luke Evangelista, the last two remaining unsigned RFAs.
