Taylor Fritz didn’t perform best at the Kinoshita Group Japan Open Tennis Championships on Friday, but he found a way to beat Nuno Borges directly and enter the 10th season of the season.

The Americans stood out from a breakup in both sets, beating 29 winners over 25 unmandatory mistakes on their way to a 7-5, 7-6 (4) victory in Tokyo within an hour and 54 minutes.

“I think sometimes it’s hard for myself,” Fritz said. “I went to the first game. The court I warmed up to get to the midfield very quickly, I didn’t get the first time in the first game and then grabbed every ball in each ball. I did a great job. I did a great job. I broke in. It’s not that I got a break early and then fell twice in the second set, but I really struggled, I did a great job.”

According to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index, Fritz has won 30 tour wins since the grass swing began in June, and so far, the Statistics Bureau in Tokyo has added another 100 points this week, which increases his chances of returning to the Nitto ATP final in November.

The 27-year-old ranked sixth in the PIF ATP live game with 3,565 points. He is 860 points ahead of No. 10 Felix’s Aal-aliassime, and in fact, he is the first player outside the top 8, and he is ninth for the rest of the year due to injury.

Fritz won the championship last season in Turin, and he won the crown in Tokyo in 2022. To win the third tour of the year, the second seed will meet Sebastian Korda in the quarterfinals.

Korda sent Japanese wildcard Sho Shimabukuro 6-1, 6-4 to reach his fourth Tour annual quarterfinals. The 25-year-old Fritz is 1-2 in the couple’s Lexus ATP Head2head series. In other moves at the ATP 500 Hard-Court event on Friday, the Australian qualifier Aleksandar Vukic beat Germany’s Daniel Altmaier 6-4, 6-2.
