Dallas Stars Jamie Benn with lung collapse for 4 weeks – Hockey Writer – NHL News

Today, the Dallas Stars announced that their captain Jamie Benn will undergo surgery to repair the collapsed lungs. The team said he will reevaluate within four weeks.

Ben will miss the start of the season

The injury occurred at the end of the third quarter of the preseason against Minnesota on Tuesday. According to Jim Nill, the team hopes Benn will fully recover.

Although the lung collapse is not too serious, the team may be particularly cautious given his age to avoid further problems. That’s why they plan to reevaluate him in a four-week period.

As of now, we have only been two weeks since the 2025-26 season. This means Benn misses the starting point, and if the surgery has complications, it may be more. The star was exactly 14 days from the Winnipeg Jets on October 9.

Benn, 36, entered his 17th NHL season, all with the stars. With the club, he played in 1,192 games and scored 399 goals and 557 assists, with 956 points.

Benn is only 44 points away from 1,000. If he returns in four weeks, his comeback should be around October 23. He will miss about six games without further damage, and he will have 76 games to collect 44 points to reach 1,000, which is probably his last NHL season.
