Surrey wins the UK Women’s County Final – Golf News

Surrey won the 10th Women’s County Championship in 2025, after winning all five games at Selby Golf Club since 2021
The pinky beat Northumberland (5-0), Somerset (4-1), Lincolnshire (4-1) and Norfolk (4-1) before completing the final day of the cleaning seat in the championship match against Buckinghamshire.
The result felt very sweet as Nottinghamshire was unbeaten in last year’s game.
“It feels so amazing,” said Surrey first team captain Katie Laud. “I’ve been playing for Surrey for 21 years, but I’ve never managed to win the county finals, so it’s so amazing for me personally and I’m proud of the team.
“We were unbeaten last year and just lost, so this year we came back and stayed unbeaten and lifted the trophy is special.
“We have a lot of motivation and our coach spends a lot of time in the year telling us that we are going to make the finals and lift the trophy, so it’s amazing to actually do it.”
England golf women’s team members Annabel Peaford and Issy Simpson stood out to win all five games, while Peaford won all five singles.
Simpson putts to win, while he won four singles wins in Holly Justice’s four-game partnership.
In the foursome, the partnership between Amelia Matthews and Lottie Woodham earned the highest points and won three games from three games.
“We have a lot of girl chips at different times,” Lauder added. “When I look back at County Week, we have players who get us points here, but are unable to play because they are in the United States.
We are very lucky in Surrey, our team has a lot of depth, half of which are under 16 years old.
“We have a very hardworking junior committee and junior coach and I think when we won Junior High Week, the second team won the game and now we have this trophy.”
