Aziz Olajuwon chooses Stanford
Olajuwon, a top 40 recruit, recently narrowed his list to four schools: Stanford, Cincinnati, Vanderbilt and his father’s alma mater, Houston.
The 6-foot-7 small forward from Texas has reportedly visited Cincinnati and Vanderbilt in recent weeks after a summer trip to Stanford University.

“I chose Stanford because it was the perfect balance between elite scholars and advanced basketball,” Olajuwon said. “This place challenges me on the court and in the classroom while also preparing for my life.
He also sent a message to Cardinal fans: “Be ready, we’re building something special. I can’t wait to wear a Stanford jersey, compete at the highest level and give the program and fans everything I have. The future is bright and I’m excited to be a part of it.”
Olajuwon becomes the highest-rated new recruit in Stanford’s history
Olajuwon has become Stanford’s first ESPN 100 recruit since Kyle Smith was appointed head coach in March 2024. Since 2010, the program has been selected or reached the NBA.
According to Tobias Bass of athletic ability, he is now officially the 10th highest recruit in Stanford history.
“Coach Smith and the entire staff are people who really invest on the court and on the court,” Olajuwon said. “I was impressed by their enthusiasm, leadership and ability to connect with the team.
“This visit felt like a real day in life, not just a trip. I had to experience the campus, the people and the culture in a real way, and that felt right.”
Olajuwon excels in Nike Eybl Circuit
Olajuwon, who recently moved to IMG Academy in Florida (Florida), was named No. 64, a prospect who was 247Sports Comprehensive Rating (2026).
During the Nike Eybl Tour this summer, he averaged 16.4 points, 7.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists in 19 games. He was also nearly 42% within the 3-point range of Nike Peach Jam in July.
Olajuwon is the second commitment of Smith and Stanford in 2026, joining four-star guard Isaiah Rogers, who is listed as the No. 131 prospect in the 247Sports Composite rankings.
The Cardinals finished 21-14 in Smith’s first season with the highest victory of the program in a decade and scored an 11-9 meeting record in the school’s ACC debut.
