Jasmine Paolini won a tough game in the decisive doubles encounter with partner Sara Errani, leading Italy to another Billy Jean Gold Cup final in the final with Ukraine.
The world’s No.8 Paolini came from the scene, winning an exciting game 3-6 6-4 6-4 and forcing the decision to doubles.
French Open and Olympic champions Paolini and Errani then beat Marta Kostyuk and Lyudmyla Kichenok 6-2 6-3 to beat Shenzhen’s tie 2-1.
Ukraine was in the semifinals for the first time and put their first place on the board when Kostyuk beat Elisabetta Cocciaretto 6-2 6-3 in the first match.
Italy will meet the UK or the US, who meet each other in a performance on Sunday in Saturday’s semi-final.
Britain is chasing the girl championship, while the United States is pursuing record No. 19.
