Knicks intend to keep Malcolm Brogdon

According to the New York Post’s Stefan Bondy, the New York Knicks reportedly plan to keep Malcolm Brogdon and Landry Shamet on their 15-man opening night.
Knicks lack cap space
To keep the two players, New York will have to trade to open up the cap space. The Knicks are very tough and cannot exceed the $207.8 million second tax apron threshold.
New York only has enough cap space to add a veteran to the minimum contract. Brogdon and Saudi Arabia were among several senior players who signed a non-guaranteed contract to compete for the location.
The Knicks also signed garrison Matthews, Matt Ryan and Alex Ren this week. Bondy noted that Brogdon and Shamet passed other opportunities that wouldn’t have done so if they were worried about being cut.
Brogdon turned 33 in December and joined the Nicks for one year last week.
Malcolm Brogdon missed several matches with the Wizard
According to basketball reference, Brogdon won the 2016-17 Rookie of the Year and the 2022-23 No. 6 Man, and is one of two players to win two awards in his career.
However, Brogdon played in just 24 games (13 games) last season, averaging 12.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 23.5 minutes per game while shooting 43.3% while Deep shots only 28.6% from the field.
On November 30, Washington lost 124-114 on the road in Milwaukee, where he scored a season-high 29 points (66.7%) on 10 points (66.7%) from 15 and hit the ball with a one-on-one three-point shooting percentage.
Virginia Products will enter his 10th NBA season in 2025-26.
Landry Shamet wants to help New York compete for title
Meanwhile, Shamet signed a one-year contract last Thursday to return to New York.
Last season, he played 50 games on the Nicks’ bench, averaging 5.7 points and 1.2 rebounds per game while shooting 46.1% from the field and over 39.7% from the arc.
According to Sny’s Ian Begley, Shamet has “other options”, but chose to return to New York because he “wanted to return to the locker room he likes” and helped Eastern Conference contenders “fight for the championship.”
Shamet, 28, opened a training camp in New York before the 2024-25 season, but was exempted from the team after a preseason shoulder injury.
After the Missouri recovered, he finally signed with the Knicks in December 2024, making his debut one day after agreeing to the contract.
He scored a season-high 29 points in the New York regular season finals in Brooklyn on April 13.
