Davis Cup 2025: Cameron Norrie leads Britain 1-0 in Poland

With Poland’s top two singles players – Hubert Hurkacz and Kamil Majchrzak – Fili’s opponent pieczkowski is their highest ranking player.

This means Britain is a tie favorite, which is compared to Premier League teams facing non-league teams in the FA Cup.

But Captain Leon Smith warned that it wasn’t necessarily that simple. So, Norrie has proven to work hard in the match against 19-year-old Berkieta, 511 below him.

Norrie immediately stood on his back foot, saving two breakout points in his opening service.

After a tricky scene, the players did not expect further breakthrough opportunities, and the pole forced a tiebreaker.

Norrie lost two fixed points in the wrong win and then met three of his own, but Berkieta’s double downsides then Norrie’s precise points were taken from the sealed 30-year-old opener.

Norri then showed off his experience in the second set as Burketa fell behind in faith and level, and early serve was enough to get Norri’s victory and the first point in the UK tie.

Since the 2023 Serbia quarterfinals, biceps and illness have prevented top ten player Norrie from kicking out of the Davis Cup.

He has played 22 games this year but said playing for his country is one of my favorite week.

Britain lost 3-2 to Japan in the first round of this year’s Davis Cup, so the draw must be won to maintain its elite status. Failure will mean the playoffs in February, which could lead to relegation to World Group 2.
