Even if the players are perfectly suited, it will be difficult for the captain to get their services, as the Davis Cup tie is performed regularly the week after the Grand Slam.
Andy Murray rarely had three years of games in his 20s when GB wasn’t around the world, but Smith was optimistic Draper would continue to want to play for the team.
“I feel players want to be part of it,” he said.
“We are in LTA and the players here, you can say they value that, they value getting together.
“Our job this weekend is to try to keep the top group so we can win next year, but obviously there is more conversation about the arrangements to try to make those players slamming.
“If you want them to play, ask them to change for a few days – sometimes traveling very far or changing the surface – it will be difficult.
“So I feel like there’s a big appetite for representing your country in the Davis Cup, but there’s some work to do in formatting.”
Since the 2023 Serbia quarterfinals, biceps and illness have prevented Norri from playing the Davis Cup.
The 30-year-old has played 22 games this year but says the Davis Cup week is “very different”.
“It has been one of my favorite weeks to play for your country,” he said.
“It’s a great group of boys and girls – exactly what I want to do.
“It was a very different week with a tour. It was almost like another break – it was a precious week.
“You might have to take a break, you might be practicing, you might be playing another game. But for me, I always want to try to prioritize this in my career.”
