Jackson Koivun has played his ticket to the PGA Tour. The world’s No. 1 amateur won his card through PGA Tour University but delayed his career to Auburn.
Although Koivun’s career will soon be coming, he still has some amateur goals to check before he can head to the PGA Tour. One of them arrives this week, and Koivun will lead the Americans against Britain and Ireland in the 2025 Walker Cup at Cypress Point. The Walker Cup team is important when the Walker Cup is watching the 2021 Walker Cup at the Seminole Golf Club. When he learned that the 2025 event was held in Cypress Point, that goal became even more important to the Auburn star, not far from growing up in San Jose.
Koivun played Cypress Point Classic in 2023 and went from his first voyage to the prestigious club, prompting him to move forward to fulfill his dream of becoming a member of the 2025 Walker Cup team. motivation? Golf pencil.
“I want to say that I first watched the Walker Cup in Seminole,” the Walker Cup said Thursday before. “That was the first time I really glanced at it and since then, I really wanted to be part of the team. I’m still very young [the 2023 team at] St Andrews, but it’s part of what I want to be, I keep a cypress dot pencil in the yard book since my first year of the Cypress Dot Championship and tell myself that once I play the Walker Cup here, I’ll get a new pencil, so maybe I’ll get my pencil. ”

Team USA will be leaning towards the world’s No. 1 amateurs this weekend at Cypress Point. It was the burden Koivun was ready to take after a summer, which led him to start the T11-T5-T6 in three PGA Tours as he missed the U.S. Open cut.
When asked about being a team anchor, Koivun said, “I’m just talking about experience.” “I’m lucky to be able to have a lot of games here, NCAA, game games, all these fun things. Just experience experience, how to play games, who works with whom, all these things, all these things. Just rely on that, and whether Cap wants me to participate in all four or his decisions, it’s his decision and I’m very happy with anything.”
Koivun and Tommy Morrison lost to Tyler Weaver and Connor Graham 3 and 1 on Saturday. But Koivun bounced back to Weaver 4 and 3 in Saturday’s singles.
Koivun and the Americans will have a talented GB&I squad, and Rory McIlroy gets an inspirational message before Saturday’s round begins. But Americans have the number one amateur, Jackson Koivun plans to leave Cypress with victory (and a new pencil) for some time.
