Diogo Jota
£41 million from the wolf
Liverpool ensured a five-year contract for Wolves by signing Diogo Jota through the extra time before the start of the 2020/21 season (which was postponed due to the pandemic), which was postponed due to the pandemic.
Jota will continue to be an Anfield fan favorite, but unfortunately passed away in 2025 after a road accident. He will always be called Liverpool’s No. 20.
9
Fabinho
Monaco’s £44 million
After Fabinho arrived at the club in May 2018, he credited him with Liverpool’s excellent infrastructure, but ultimately the much-needed spine around him.
The Brazilian midfielder has been pursued after his predecessor Monaco has made more than 150 appearances, as he is able to play anywhere in the middle of the park.
Fabinho is considered a perfect replacement for Klopp’s side with Emre Can as a free agent signing free agent.

Naby Keita
RB Leipzig’s £48m
When Liverpool agreed to trigger the release clause with RB Leipzig in August 2017, Naby Keita surpassed Andy Carroll’s £35m record in 2011 and secured a move for the next season.
This is mainly the story of two stories in Liverpool for Keita. The first thing starts with commitment, potential and hope. The second ended with injury, inconsistency and ultimately inevitable release.

Dominik Szoboszlai
RB Leipzig’s £60m
When it was announced that James Milner, Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain were all leaving the club, Klopp knew he needed to splash cash into a brand new midfielder in the summer of 2023.
Shortly after Liverpool completed the signing of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton for £35m, Liverpool told RB Leipzig that they would trigger a £60m release clause for Dominik Szoboszlai.
The Hungarian captain won DFB-Pokal with Leipzig and finished a strong third in the Bundesliga, but he performed well on the international stage as the Hungarian captain attracted Liverpool’s eyes.
6
Darwin Nunez
£64 million from Benfica
Darwin Nunez signed an initial £64m from Benfica in 2022 and scored a great goal with the Reds when his goal secured Liverpool’s community shield against Manchester City.
But things in Uruguayan in Anfield never really got to the hands of Anfield, who was sold to Saudi professional league club Al Hilal in 2025.
5
Arison
£67 million from Rome
Alisson became the world’s most expensive goalkeeper in the summer of 2018, when he signed a six-year contract from Roma.
The deal surpassed City’s £35m signing in 2017, which proved to be a key turning point during Klopp’s tenure at the club, after losing in the main trophy after the goalkeeper had infringed the goalkeeper.
Although the Merseyside club officials did not disclose the actual fees, his former club Roma said the deal was worth up to £67 million.
However, the record should have been broken and it didn’t last long as Chelsea signed Kepa Arrizabalaga at Athletic Bilbao, which was signed for £71 million a few weeks later.
4
Hugo ekitike
£69 million from Frankfurt
Hugo Ekitike is one of two star strikers signed at Liverpool in 2025, and the Reds paid £69 million to Frankfurt for their re-selling Nunez.
Like Nunez, the Frenchman immediately impressed with his debut on the Community Shield, while Ekitike also won the goal for his first goal in the 2025/26 Premier League season.
3
Virgil Van Dijk
£75 million from Southampton
Liverpool’s most expensive defensive signature ever was arguably the most important increase in the past decade. Now, Reds Captain Van Dijk has won multiple Premier League titles and Champions Leagues at Anfield, establishing the Liverpool legend.
Van Dijk’s announcement of joining Liverpool at the turn of New Year in 2018 was a world record deal for the defenders of the time – a fee since Harry Maguire moved to Man United in 2019 (£80 million), while Josko Gvardiol’s Josko Gvardiol and Man City in 2023 (£77 million) won every canon in 2023.
2
Florian Wirtz
Bayer Leverkusen’s £116 million
Florian Wirtz signed a record contract for several months in the summer of 2025 after he sold £116 million from Bayer Leverkusen.
The German international team seemed to refuse to join Bayern Munich, instead heading to Merseyside with the Reds and signed a five-year contract at Anfield.
1
Alexander Isak
£125 million from Newcastle
Alexander Isak is a record transfer between Liverpool and the UK, and the Reds finally settled a deal with the 2025 deadline.
The Swedish International team went on strike for weeks in Newcastle before finally moving to Anfield. Isak signed a six-year contract and brought the Reds back £125 million.
