Tom Cosgrove – MLB Trade Rumors

Bear sends left-handed relief Tom Cosgrove According to the MLB.com transaction log, direct with Triple A Iowa. He cleared the waiver after being assigned as a mission on August 31. Cosgrove is the Cubs’ claim of 40-man lineup casualties Aarons Waiver from the White Sox.

Chicago acquired Cosgrove from Padres in mid-April. He spent most of his season in the minor leagues. The 29-year-old has made two appearances in the major leagues, allowing one game in four innings. The University of Manhattan product has a 4.71 ERA in 42 frames in Iowa. Cosgrove sniffed a quarter of his opponents, but walked too many hitters to get a free pass with 14% of the clips.

Two years ago, Cosgrove threw 51 1/3 innings in San Diego. He hasn’t received much work from the major leagues since then. His triple production has been in the middle for the past few seasons as he struggles to continue strikes. This is Cosgrove’s first thorough professional mission. He doesn’t have the necessary service hours to elect a free agent, so he will stick with Iowa’s depth as a non-coffee cowboat for the rest of the season. If the Cubs don’t call him, Cosgrove will be a minor league free agent at the end of the year.
