US Open Results 2025: Naomi Osaka says her ‘dream come true’ after defeating Karolina Muchova to the semifinals
If Osaka beats Anisimova, she will be the player in the 2020 U.S. Open since Victoria Azarenka produced the 2020 U.S. Open.
And if the four-time main winner wins all the way in New York, she will be the first player to win a Grand Slam after childbirth since Kim Clijsters (2009, 2010 and 2011).
Osaka struggled to put down the dent in Muchova’s serve before and after the first set, slamming decisively at 5-4 – on the second inquiry, snatched out at 0-40 and closed the opener.
Muchova started a prank after having problems with her left leg in Game 6, calling on the coach and receiving medical care off the field.
Her thighs were heavily tied, but it didn’t seem to hinder her tennis as she took a break from the second set soon.
Osaka immediately knocked back, with little to separate until the frustrated Osaka admitted serving 4-4 with a series of unforced errors.
But as Muchova stepped up her efforts and forced the decision to suit, Osaka returned to calming the scene and actively rebounded, breaking into love to level the scene.
She got control in the tiebreak and led 4-1, which was enough to end her victory with a big smile.
“It’s a very difficult game,” Osaka added in her stadium interview. “She is one of the best players in the world – it’s so difficult every time I play her.
She joked: “Last year, she beat me here when I had one of my best outfits, so I was really upset.”
