Charger’s Najee Harris (eyes) should be available in week 1

Najee Harris left Pittsburgh in the offseason after four years with the Steelers. The team did not give him a long-term contract. Instead, Harris signed a one-year, $5.25 million deal with Chargers.
Chargers RB Najee Harris suffered eye injury in the fireworks on July 4. This forced the 27-year-old to miss all the training camps in Los Angeles. Recently, Harris was finally cleared as a formal participant in the practice. Najee Harris said in a conversation with the media on Monday that he hopes to play against the Chiefs in Brazil on Friday.

In his four-year career, Najee Harris has never missed a game. During the offseason, Pro Bowl RB suffered a “shallow” eye injury in the July 4 fireworks accident. This forced Harris to miss out on the bootcamp for all the chargers. Until recently, he wore a yellow jersey in a charger practice. This shows that he is retreating from his injury. Head coach Jim Harbaugh announced that Najee Harris is a formal participant in the Chargers practice.
He is moving in the right direction. After starting 68 games to start his career, Harris may be the backup in 2025. Los Angeles chose Omarion Hampton from UNC with a 22-time draft pick. Hampton is 6 feet tall and 220 pounds with size and skills to become a productive RB in the NFL.

Najee Harris has rushed for over 1,000 yards in four straight seasons, with at least six rushing touchdowns. In 2024, he rushed for 1,043 yards and six touchdowns. Najee Harris spoke with reporters on Monday. He said this was his fifth day of practice with the charger. Furthermore, he “just wanted to get back in this shape of football.”
Charger RB Najee Harris has worn sunglasses or a helmet with a tinted visor since the July 4 fireworks incident. When asked by the media, Naris refused to specify how the injury occurred. But he lets them know that his vision is not affected at all. His eye injury was called “superficial”. This means it only affects the outer layer of the eye and not the deeper structure. We will wait and see how Najee Harris plays against the Chiefs in Week 1.
