Garcia’s last major league game was on May 1, 2023, as Tommy John’s surgery ensured Garcia would fail until the earliest late in the 2024 season. At that time, Garcia didn’t have some new elbow soreness during last year’s elbow rehabilitation mission, but unfortunately, these elbow problems continued until 2025, which wasn’t entirely rare.
It wasn’t until the first week of July that Garcia had an outing with the rookie branch of Astros. Now, he has made nine appearances while working on the minor league ladder, with four of the last five beginnings being AA Sugar Land. In the final game on August 26, Garcia threw 75 goals in six innings while allowing only one inning, and he threw at least 75 goals in the last three games.
While the field results may not matter to pitch counts during training and general comfort and health, Garcia’s 2.60 ERA in 17 1/3 Triple-A innings provides some evidence that he’s ready to roll. After such a long absence, what he could offer against the MLB hitter is anyone’s guess, but it will certainly help for Astros to get the rotary arm back to October.
Brown Hunter and Framber Valdez Houston’s top two starters are locks in regular season and hypothetical playoff rotations. While there isn’t much real certainty besides Brown and Valdez, the Astronauts seem to have enough spin depth to help them pursue Al West Crown, and the team hopes it’s another in-depth playoff game.
Christian Javier Four starting points have been recorded since his own Tommy John Rehab returned, Spencer Arrighetti He performed well in his last few games earlier this year after his thumb broke and sent him to 60-day Illinois. Jason Alexander It has done a great job since stepping into the rotation, but ideally best as a swingman during the playoffs. Rookie Brandon Walter His nine games were excellent before elbow inflammation sent him to the 60-day IL and he was not eligible for activation until late September. struggle Lance McCullers Jr. Recently moved to the bullpen, opening up space for Garcia’s rotation combination.
Garcia participated in its fifth Major League Baseball season now. Garcia became the rotation regular season in 2021, ranking second in the AL rookie of the year, releasing a 3.48 ERA for an Altos team that won Al Pennant in 155 1/3 innings. Garcia ended a strong sophomore season in 2022 with 157 1/3 frames 3.72 ERA balls to help Houston bring back the World Series. Although Garcia has a 5.79 ERA in the 23 1/3 professional playoffs, he has a spot in the playoffs, including 5 2/3 innings in the Houston championship game at the 2021 ALCS on Red Sox.
