Chelsea confirms signing £40m from Manchester United

Chelsea completed a £40 million transfer, signing Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United, with summer spending close to £300 million.
The 21-year-old winger made the ninth arrival of Chelsea’s window, joining attacking recruits Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, Estevao and Jamie Gittens.
His arrival increased the club’s total spending to £296.8 million – although the Blues also raised £314.4 million through the departure of 26 players, both permanently and borrowing.
Garnacho’s valuation compromise ultimately took a hit. Manchester United has been holding for £50 million, while Chelsea has opened at £25 million.
The final fee represents Manchester United’s largest player sales in five years, and it is understood that the club is satisfied with the players’ future prices and solutions. The deal also includes a 10% sell clause.
It is Manchester United’s fourth largest sale ever, behind only the sale of Cristiano Ronaldo, Romelu Lukaku and Angel di Maria, as well as the export of their most profitable local academy products.
Garnacho, who had pushed for the departure of Old Trafford, rejected other club methods to ensure the transfer to Stamford Bridge.
At the end of last season, he was told he was free to leave and was not included in the pre-season training program of new manager Ruben Amorim.
Garnacho was a Bruce man for the first time, and he said: “It was an incredible moment for me and my family and I joined this great club.
“I can’t wait to start. I watched the Club World Cup and it’s special to join the World Championship – we are the best team in the world! It’s amazing to be here, and I’m so happy.”
