Mavericks exempt Olivier-Maxence

The Dallas Mavericks have decided to give up their 2023 first-round pick Olivier-Maxence Prosper, creating a roster for Dante Exum and saving salary cap space under a second apron.
Mavericks bring dead hat hit rate to Olivier-Maxence Prosper
By using exemptions and tight rules, Prosper’s remaining salary for the upcoming season was allocated for three years, resulting in an annual salary of about $1 million in Dallas.
“The Mavs will pay $1,002,360 for the Olivier-Maxence boom over the next three seasons (via the 2027-28 season). Dallas has already carried Javale McGee’s $2,208,856 death currency cover, hitting on Javale McGee every year.
The move allows the Mavericks to sign the Exum formally signed by the deadline and gain financial flexibility. By freeing him, the Mavericks rejected Props’ $5.3 million team option in the 2026-27 season.
Dallas is reportedly trying to trade a boom before 5 p.m. on the ET deadline to use the extension rules. However, the Mavericks are reluctant to separate from one of their two remaining second-rounders to lower Prosp’s salary.
The Mavericks need to open the room under the second tax apron before they can re-sign. After agreeing on July 2, his minimum level contract can now be finalized.
Exum will replace Prosper as the 15th standard contract on the team roster.
Prosper expects to arouse interest from unrestricted free agents
According to Michael Scotto of Hoopshype, Prosper will attract unrestricted free agent interest when entering the open market in the coming days.
The Sacramento Kings were drafted in the 2023 draft and then traded to the Mavericks on draft night. The 23-year-old will see less game time after the Mavericks drafted Cooper Flagg.
In 92 games (five games) against the Mavericks, he averaged 3.5 points, 2.2 rebounds and 10 minutes per game while shooting 39.6% and 26% from the 3-point field.
Meanwhile, Exum is the fifth pick in the 2014 draft.
The 6-foot-5 defender spent the first seven years of his career with the Utah Jazz and the Cleveland Cavaliers, but he was unable to establish his reliable rotation.
He played in Europe for two seasons starting in 2021-23 before returning to the United States in the offseason in 2023. The injury also hindered the development of Exum’s early career and continued to influence his second NBA lead, limiting him to 75 appearances over the past two seasons.
Exum proved to be an effective role player for the Mavericks when healthy, averaging 8.0 points, 2.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 19.5 minutes of games, shooting 51/47/76.
In 20 games last season (13 games), he averaged 8.7 points, 1.7 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 18.6 minutes of games, while the floor shot 47.8% from the field while the arc exceeded 43.4%.

PJ Washington is eligible to sign a four-year, $89.2 million contract on Friday.
According to Mike Curtis Dallas Morning Postthe Mavericks “may” extend their contract to Washington during the offseason. Curtis noted that it is not clear what the specific terms of a potential deal are.
If Washington signs the extension, it will also make him ineligible for trading under the NBA’s six-month rules until the next offseason.
Washington initially signed a three-year, $46.5 million contract with the Charlotte Hornets in August 2023. He was traded to Dallas in February 2024.
In 57 games (56 games) last season, Washington averaged 14.7 points, a career-high 7.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.1 steals, 1.1 blocks and 32.2 minutes per game while shooting 45.3% from the field and 38.1% from the depths.
