Pirate WR Chris Godwin (ankle) is unlikely to play until October

Before the 2025 season, several Pirates WRs are dealing with injuries. One of them is veteran WR Chris Godwin. In 2024, Goldwin broke his ankle and broke his Baltimore Ravens.

The 29-year-old has undergone surgery and has been working hard to return to the driving range. On Thursday, August 21, NFL insiders shared the latest damage update for Pro Bowl WR. Team insider Rick Stroud reported that Chris Godwin had been activated on the Tampa Bay puppies list. But, according to Stroud, Godwin wasn’t expected until October.

Tampa Bay will be patiently waiting for Chris Goldwin’s return

The Buccaneers won a third-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, picking Chris Godwin from Penn State. He played for Tampa Bay for eight professional seasons. Despite a broken ankle last season, Bucs offered Goldwin a three-year, $66 million contract worth $44 million. They did not give up on veteran WR.

Chris Godwin had surgery on his ankle and had been working hard to get back on the field in Tampa Bay. Before that, he had a while. However, WR did get a positive update on Thursday. Insiders reported that Bucs activated Chris Godwin from the puppy list. Next, he will begin his acceleration process to re-practice.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter noted that Godwin didn’t start practicing until Week 2. Most importantly, WR is unlikely until October. Fortunately for the Pirates, they have a rookie WR who has been a topic of training camp in the offseason. Tampa Bay’s 2025 first-round draft pick Emeka Egbuka is ready to make an impact from Week 1.

Egbuka has been turning around until Tampa Bay’s 2025 season. He is expected to start the season’s WR2 with legendary Bucs WR Mike Evans. Emeka Egbuka can fill the gap in Chris Godwin, while veteran WR is back on the field. When Goldwin returns, Bucs may have a WRS trio in 2025.
