Yankees become the first nine-running team in season one

The New York Yankees beat Tampa Bay Rays 13-3 yesterday, defeating nine home runs, making them the first game of nine or more home runs in their first game of all time. Yanks previously performed this feat with Milwaukee Brewers on March 29, 2025.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said after the win: “It’s about to do it twice.” It’s just an impressive offensive performance against a team, and obviously, scoring isn’t always easy to fight. ”
The Yankees started a tough start with back-to-back home runs from Cody Bellinger, Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton, giving them a 3-0 advantage in the first inning.
“It’s great to see,” Stanton said in a post-match interview. “I think we scored nine points tonight. It’s incredible.”
The Yankees’ storm continued until the second inning, when shortstop José Caballero hit two home runs to expand the lead to 5-0.
“Yes, this is a special thing,” Cavalero told reporters after the game. “That’s why they’re Bronx bombers…hang out with those guys (the judge and Stanton), and that has to be contagious.”
The Rays will get two retreats, but Jazz Chisholm Jr. beat the home run in the third inning to lead 6-2. In the next inning, Stanton hit a three-in-one home run followed by first baseman Ben Rice, which raised the lead to 10-2.
“I think we’re all ready to go at 7:30, and that didn’t happen,” Stanton said while discussing the delay in rainfall, which delayed the start of last night’s game. “So we had to take them out a little.”
Cody Bellinger and José Caballero each hit another home run, bringing the Yankees’ scoring output to 13.
“I mean, obviously, a lot of good volatility,” Aaron Boone said. “You’re just cheering for it. These games, every game is big… I don’t take it easily when we can really add and have games like this.”
“We have really good offenses,” Cody Bellinger told reporters in a post-match interview. “I think, a 162-game season ebb and flow, right? It’s not always pretty, but we all believe in each other and the genius is there. We did a great job of putting all of this together, and it’s fun to be a part.”
The Yankees will win for the fifth straight win, and the Yankees will take over the rays again in Tampa. The first stadium of the game is scheduled for 7:35 pm ET.
