Bears acquires Drew Pomeranz from sailors

7:47 pm: The Cubs officially announced to the media, including Marque's Taylor McGregor, that they have purchased Pomeranz's cash considerations. The team announced that Pomeranz will submit to Iowa to Triple A Iowa, so this appears to be a standard minor league deal rather than providing using upward mobility.

6:10 pm: Sailors are trading relief workers Drew Pomeranz For the Cubs, athletic Ken Rosenthal reported. The veteran Southpaw pitched on Triple-A with Seattle. According to Rosenthal, the Pomeranz deal contains an upward mobility clause that requires the Mariners to be in a position on another team willing to give him a major league roster, asking the Mariners to call him or trade him.

This suggests that the Cubs will call Pomeranz, his first major league appearance in four years (assuming he's in the game). He played in the major leagues very briefly last season as he spent four days on the Giants’ squad last May. San Francisco Captain Bob Melvin did not allow him to play before being assigned as a mission and obtained a mission in the lineup. Pomeranz picked free agents when clearing the waiver and sat down for the rest of the season.

The 36-year-old signed a minor league contract with Seattle in December. He was released at the end of spring training but quickly returned to a new non-group contract. He allowed six runs, five of which won nine 2/3 innings from the Tacoma branch. Pomeranz won eight free passes (6 walks and 2 hitters), but he was beaten 14 of 43 opponents. He waved his strike in a nice 11.8% clip when using a 92mph fastball and a low 80s knuckle curve.

Despite the swinging orders, Chicago is interested in Chicago and can give Pomeranz a look. He was somewhat familiar with Captain Craig Counsell. Pomeranz finished half of the season in Milwaukee, while Counsell managed the winemakers in 2019. He recorded 45 strikeouts in 26 1/3 innings after a deadline trade with San Francisco. This led to the Padres signing him for a surprising four-year, $34mm free agent, after which the offseason trades were made. The investment is invalid as the injury and a shortened 2020 schedule limit him to 47 appearances in his life in that contract.

According to the MLB.com transaction log, Bear Select Jordan Wix Go to Iowa Triple. This is obviously the corresponding active lineup movement. They also need to add Pomeranz to the 40-man lineup, although they can move Justin Steele To the 60-day list of injured people to open the location.
