US Open Mixed Doubles: Emma Raducanu and Jack Draper face to face in New York

British numbers Emma Raducanu and Jack Draper will face each other in a new look US Open mixed doubles match in New York this week.

Raducanu, 22, teamed up with five-time Grand Slam champion Carlos Alcaraz, while Draper, 23, will compete with American Jessica Pegula, with their original partners Tommy Paul and Paula Badosa both quit.

Organizers were severely criticized in February after announcing that the mixed doubles match would be an independent event from August 19 to 20 – before the singles match began on August 24.

The 16 pairs involved will compete for $1 million (£749,077) on the Flushing Meadow.

Raducanu won the U.S. Open in 2021, and Spain’s Alcaraz was awarded a wildcard for the two-day tournament.

Before the event began, Alcaraz, 22, competed in the world No. 1 Jannik Sinner for the fourth time of the season, in the final of the Cincinnati Open, Ohio on Monday.

The 24-year-old Italian sinner is also a wildcard entrant. His partner, Emma Navarro, has re-cooperated with Czech Katerina Siniakova after his withdrawal.

Meanwhile, Draper and Pegula have qualified directly and won the best seeds as both players are in the top five in singles rankings.

The first two rounds will be held on Tuesday, with the semi-finals and finals on Wednesday.

It only takes four games to win the game before the final, and the invalid score (winning the game will require 4 points) and 10 points of game steals instead of the third game.
