Debrincat Trade doesn’t require any logic box oiler or red wings – Hockey Writer – Edmonton Oiler

We are officially in NHL Summer Lull. There is little news to be written before training camp and regular season begins and it takes a lot of patience, so the trade proposal post is part of the norm of the year. Jesse Courville-Lynch, a scribe for hockey writer, proposed a pitch like this when he wrote: “If the Oilers were really willing to spend a lot of money, they might be suitable for the Detroit Red Wings trading partner… A player who stood out on the Detroit Red Wings, is the potential trade target of the Oilers, the superstar Alex Debrincat.”

Interesting ideas. Unfortunately, the industry can check a small number of Detroit Red Wing or Edmonton oilers, if any.

Why does this deal make no sense to any team

The full trade sales include the following: Debrincat in exchange for Mattias Ekholm, Beau Akey, their 2027 first-round pick and 2028 second-round pick.

Courville-Lynch argued in his post that the Oilers brought superstars to their top six forward team and had a deep defensive depth that they had the ability to move on from Ekholm. This is not completely correct.

First, some might say that the Oiler doesn’t need a superstar winger. It would be nice to have a partner for Leon Draisaitl, but Edmonton offers cheaper options in Isaac Howard and Matt Savoie this season. The money is a big factor here, even if the idea is to convince Red Wing to keep the salary, it’s unlikely.

Second, the Oilers can’t afford to move Ekholm because of their defensive depth. There is a difference between depth and solid blue line agent. Ekholm is an important part of that core, and moving him creates a huge hole that no one can effectively fill it.

Finally, Red Wings hope to be competitive this season. Of course, if they struggle and don’t seem to make it to the playoffs, they might sell a few pieces. Debrincat is not one of them. He didn’t make a deal, he wouldn’t be rent. And, while Ekholm is a nice addition, Beau Akey and the two draft picks didn’t help Detroit get better.

We also overlooked some of the obvious factors in this trade proposal

Other things to consider here are that Debrincat has a 16 team without trade. Although Ekholm has no trade protection, his love for the City of Edmonton and the Oilers has been positive and very public. Assume that any player wants to leave their respective situations at a long distance.

Beyond that, there is already something to say, the Oilers are considering offering Ekholm a contract extension. There is no indication that the team is considering trading him. Of course, the best deals offered in his time might be a bit back and forth, but that doesn’t mean they’re considering moving forward. It also doesn’t mean he wants to sign in Detroit, assuming the Oilers trade him strangely.

Why would Red Wings give up on debris for Ekholm, knowing he could walk away at the end of the season and sign autograph anywhere he wanted, including back to Edmonton?

For oilers, the idea of trading Ekholm by the deadline is ridiculous. Only when they have an upgrade on defense can Ekholm get Ekholm to that player, Edmonton will consider sending him anywhere. The tanker is not even just Detroit, it’s not just singles. They are in Stanley Cup competition mode. GM Stan Bowman will not be in business with one position as another, especially if it creates new problems that he has to manage.

And, the issues created on the Blue Line of Oil Man aren’t just today’s problems. If Ekholm disappears, the Oilers have no clear inheritance plan, but Akey in the trade is in trouble on the future blue line. It can also move a lot of oilers’ draft capital.
