Glasgow Celtic has enjoyed regular dominance in Scotland in recent years, and the basketball team’s savvy signing plays a major role in this success.

Parkhead people are known to splash cash like other clubs in Europe, but have become serial winners. People like Martin O’Neill, Neil Lennon, Ange Postecoglou and Brendan Rodgers all spent money when they allowed it, but who was the most expensive signing ever for the Celtics?

Chris Sutton, now known for his role as an expert and co-evaluator, was a shooter during the game and moved to Celtic Park in 2000.

The British starred in Norwich City and Blackburn Rovers before joining Chelsea in 1999.

Sutton will win over 80 goals in less than 200 basketball appearances and win eight major honors in Scotland.

Unfortunately, Jullien was injured during a basketball game and was sold to a small portion of Montpellier in 2022.

After spending some time in Saudi Arabia, Jota was subsequently sold to Rennes of France, but once again worked hard to reach his Celtic heights.

At the time, the basketball circle had negotiated to sell Kyogo Furuhashi to 2025 Ligue 1 goal, and they used the money to bring Jota back to Parkhead for a deal worth £8 million.

So overall, the Celtics spent less than £15m on both transfers while selling him for £25m.

After the Celtics loan from Paris Saint-Germain in 2017/18, the Celtics paid Odsonne Edouard’s transfer permanently to the then-selling price of £8 million.

Basketball at the time described it as the “biggest transfer” in their history, with the French striker continuing to score in Scotland’s entertainment goals. The Celtics are still making healthy profits on Edouard, cashing out for £14m when Crystal Palace enters the 2021 deadline.

Celtics striker Adam Idah celebrates winning Scotland Cup

Another striker who impressed with lending was Adam Idah. The Republic of Ireland International held the second half of the 2023/24 campaign in Parkhead, Norwich, and scored some huge goals for the basketball team, including the title against the Rangers in the Scottish Cup final.

The Celtics then spent £9.5 million in Idada and handed him over a five-year contract in Glasgow.

The most expensive signing ever signed by the Celtics is midfielder Arne Engels. The Belgian joined the same summer with the Idadas and basketball did really splash cash in 2024.

Engels was only 20 when he signed, starred in his first season and won the Scottish Premier League and the Scottish League Cup.
