Blackhawks’ Frank Nazar prepares hockey writer for 2025-26 breakout season – Chicago Blackhawks
The Chicago Blackhawks put all their eggs in the youngsters’ basket during the upcoming season. They hope to see major steps from many young players who will have the opportunity to prove themselves in the 2025-26 campaign. We already know that 2023 first draft pick Connor Bedard is the cornerstone of the franchise. He will hope to build on what he considers mediocre 2024-25 campaign.
But making a team successful requires more than one player. Another potential part of the forward that emerged as a puzzle is 13Th Overall draft pick for the 2022 draft, Frank Nazar. Let’s look at the situation and why Nazar prepares for a successful sophomore season.
Rockford’s fruitful
With the increase in many senior free agents in the 2024 offseason, Nazar may offer Rockford Icehogs from the start. However, his fate cemented the start of the season with the AHL club in the 2024-25 training camp. I’m sure Nazar was a little disappointed. After all, he scored his first NHL goal in the NHL batting ended at the 2023-24 season, which made everyone amazed (after his season, he was fit for three games after the end of the game at Michigan).

However, not everything can be a storybook, and hockey is not actually an easy game. Rockford Nazar went to Rockford Nazar but was determined to return to the major leagues as soon as possible.
Nazar basically swept the AHL, collecting 11 goals and 24 points in 21 games against the Icehogs. He led all AHL rookies and ranked sixth in the league when recalling the Blackhawks.

In hindsight, it would be better to have a better confidence in Rockford. At the end of the season, Nazar did share that he felt “it was really good for his development and his understanding of professional hockey”.
Nazar’s transition to NHL
Nazar was called to the Blackhawks on December 13 and immediately entrusted a second-tier centralized duty between veterans Taylor Hall and Tyler Bertuzzi. But like in training camp, Nazar started slowly. He registered only one assist in his first 10 games. But in the 20th game, he contributed 3 goals and 7 points.
It seems that once this young man adapts, he will run. He mentioned this at the end of the season. But even so, he attributes his success to good, old-fashioned efforts and practice.
I think it’s just hard work and practice. I think that a lot of it for me is doing exercises on the ice and working there, and when you can do it there and feel good, it gives you confidence that it can be like, OK. In the game, if I get this touch, then I know how it feels because I’ve done it. So I think that’s an important part for me. Just work hard when we aren’t playing and then once we get stuck on the ice I feel comfortable where I’m engaged in touch.
Nazar’s situation has been unfolding throughout the season. But as time goes by, even if he doesn’t score, he’s one of the best players on the ice. It was a joke and he got a few breakthroughs he couldn’t accomplish. But what matters is that he has a chance. Captain Nick Foligno of Nazar said: “I watched him mature in front of me often. I’m very proud of that kid. He really came to the game this year and kept it in mind.”

Nazar ended his 2024-25 car with an admirable 12 goals, 14 assists and 26 points in 53 games, with an average ice time of 15:52. Even with a missing 29 games and sixth in Ice Time, his score is the same as the team’s ninth place. The fact that he finally put it all together in the last three games of the season was obvious, when he scored three goals and five points.
All in all, it’s a rookie season where you can wear a hat with one person.
Win gold in the world
Nazar has gained momentum from a strong outing in 2024-25 and has included it directly into the 2025 IIHF World Championships in May. He and Blackhawks teammate Alex Vlasic both competed in the annual tournament to represent Team USA. In 10 games, the Detroit, Michigan native has six goals and 12 points. In a 6-0 victory over Hungary on May 11, he received the player in the match honors, with two goals and assists.

Once that was finished, it was done, with Nazar’s six goals tied for the highest with Tage Thompson, who was named one of the top three players in the U.S. Championships alongside Logan Cooley (Utah Mammoth) and Conor Garland (Vancouver Canucks).
Not only did Nazar excel in solo around the world, but the United States beat Switzerland 1-0 in the final to bring the gold home! This is the first time the United States has won a gold medal in 92 years! Needless to say, it was a positive experience for Nazar, and the Blackhawks only had one confidence boost to the next season.
Nazar focuses on speed and body
We have heard from Captain Fornionho how he saw Nazar growing and maturing before his eyes. But let’s take a few pages from Nazar’s notebook to learn what he thinks is important and how to handle his transition to becoming a team leader on ice and on ice.
We all know that the 21-year-old star is praised for his speed. Not only him, many of the Blackhawks youngsters have a quick side of the game. This is not lost in the team. They obviously want this to be a part of their identity. Nazar was asked about his speed and how fast the team was in the exit interview.
Yes, I like it. Obviously, that’s my game. So the more we can bring it, the more you can play a role from it, it will benefit yourself and the team. I think maybe you play the high-end team in the league and that’s what they look like. They keep moving at high speeds so you can follow, putting the puck behind you and keeping you moving forward. It’s hard to keep up. Not every team can play a complete three periods. So, I think that’s in the right direction for us and the organization. I think this will be successful in the future.
The fast-paced game will also make fans even more exciting! According to Nazar, the Blackhawks are watching to catch up and keep up with their competitors.
Nazar also understands that he needs to take on more leadership roles. His leadership is his more.
I just want to be me, I just try to lead by example. In the locker room, I try not to be super loud and tell people what to do, but I try to get there, just work hard, try, I don’t know, just show what I can do and hope to inspire people in this way…it’s more just want to be me, just be myself.
I think we can all agree that so far we are very happy that Nazar is truly doing with himself and others. It sounds like a character’s words, and it will take him and the team for a long way.
The Blackhawks’ next step
It’s safe to say that since all the hockey Nazar has moved over the past year have been excellent, this could lead to the Blackhawks’ 2025-26 campaign.
Just ahead of the 2025 NHL draft, general manager Kyle Davidson said the group currently sees Bedard and Nazar as their first and second centers. As mentioned above, Nazar was second-place center for most of his first season. So he obviously did enough in the team’s eyes to win that position.

Interestingly, he also spent a lot of time in the end of January and then spent it with Bedard at the end of March (20 games in total). Sometimes he is in the center, sometimes Bedard is in the center. Whether the team looks at this option again has not been determined.
But even if the two young superstars don’t play together in five-on-five-on-five goals, they’ll likely meet each other in a power play. It was not until last season that Nazar was promoted to the highest powerful competition unit. But I certainly hope he will be a member of the Bats’ first unit next season. Also, we can’t forget the chemistry between Bedder and Nazar during overtime!

Nazar is also a contributor to the fine killing. Last season, he played a total of 51:37 minutes in PK, an average of less than one minute per game. Additionally, he is considered one of the Blackhawks’ six infantry goals and tied for third place with Jason Dickinson for a six-sixth goal.
There is no doubt that Nazar will have more time in all aspects of the campaign in 2025-26 and more responsibility in all aspects of the game, giving him enough chance to shine.

Hopefully, Nazar can get from where he started last season, and now the entire campaign is in front of him and is one of the leading offensive stars in the team. This season is easily the year we saw him take advantage of many missed opportunities for departures last season. Perhaps it will be Nazar’s campaign adding 12 goals marks and entering the 30s points production. There is no doubt that this driven man is trajectory upward. Let’s see how far he can go.
