Golf Business News – Heritage Golf Gets Colonial Country Club

Heritage Golf Group, the leading owner and operator of private country clubs in the United States, and upscale daily golf courses across the United States, has acquired the historic Colonial Country Club in Memphis, Tennessee, bringing its portfolio to 43 clubs nationwide.
The Colonial Country Club is home to the nationally recognized 18-hole champion course (Southern course) and was previously named one of the top 100 history courses in the United States for Golf Summary. The Southern Stadium hosted more than 30 PGA Tour events, including the FedEx St Jude Classic, which crowned some of the great players of all time, including Jack Nicklaus, Gary player and Lee Trevino.
In addition to its iconic courses, the Colonial also features a spacious practice facility that includes a full-length driving range, two Bermuda grass greens and a short race area. Members also enjoy six Har-Tru tennis courts, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a fitness center and a 35,000-square-foot clubhouse.
The club has also been home to the most memorable moments of golf, including President Gerald Ford’s famous hole on the fifth hole, which was soon called “shots from all over the world” and the 1977 record record of 59 rounds by Danny Thomas Memphis Classic in 1977.
“It’s exciting for us to get such an important club in a vibrant new market,” said Eric Boberg, Executive Vice President of Heritage Golf Group. “The Colonial has a high reputation in golf competitions and we are honored to be able to move its legacy forward while introducing a new era of member experience.”
The Heritage Golf Group has developed an immediate plan to implement a comprehensive capital improvement program designed to reimagine and revitalize clubs, dining venues, lifestyle amenities and overall membership experience.
“The Colonial is home to one of the most iconic courses in the region, and we think the potential to elevate the rest of the club to the same standard is incredible,” Boberg added. “Our goal is to make meaningful enhancements early and create a modern, vibrant club to honor its historic heritage.”
The acquisition marks Heritage’s second acquisition of the year after buying the club in Cheval, Florida in May. Heritage has added a number of properties to its portfolio in 2024, including Compass Pointe Golf Club and Magnolia Greens Golf Club in North Carolina; Spring Creek Golf Club in Virginia; Oasis Golf Club in Ohio; and Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club and Traditional Golf Club in Florida.
