This leaves a vacancy for the Pacers, but Carlisle recently broke the news with a podcast interview. She wrote that Rick Carlisle was with Caitlin Cooper of basketball. He mentioned that Bennedict Mathurin will be the Pacers starter in 2025-26. Last season, Mathurin started 49 games in 72 games against Indiana.

At the 2022 NBA Draft, the Pacers used the sixth pick to pick Bennedict Mathurin from Arizona. In three seasons, the 23-year-old has played in 209 games and started 89 games. In the first half of the 2024-25 season, Bennedict Mathurin started the Pacers’ game. In mid-February, head coach Rick Carlisle adjusted the starting lineup.
Bennedict Mathurin was on the bench in the second half of this year, and the Pacers were surprised by the NBA finals. In Game 7, start PG Tyrese Haliburton tore his Achilles apart. Bennedict Mathurin is the Pacers’ bench in the 2025 playoffs. In Game 3 of the NBA Finals, Mathurin scored a playoff career-high 27 points. He is efficient in the field 9-12, while from 2-3 outside the arc. Mathurin did this. Without Tyrese Haliburton, Matthewlin could be the scorer in over 20 per game.

Additionally, Carlisle believes that young guards/forwards can grow into stronger passers and make better decisions in court. Although he mainly played small forwards in 2024-25, Mathurin can switch to SG.
