De’aaron Fox, Spurs agree to 4 years, with the largest contract extension of $229 million

Crac Sports CEO Rich Paul told ESPN’s Shams Charania that San Antonio Spurs star guard De’aaron Fox has agreed to a four-year, highest contract with the franchise.
De’aaron Fox now contracts with the Spurs to 2029-30
The new deal has no player choice in the final year and secures Fox’s future in San Antonio in the 2029-30 season. According to ESPN’s Bobby Marks, who became the 53rd player in the current CBA, signing the veterans game.
Fox, who was 28 in December, signed a five-year, $163 million contract with the Sacramento Kings. The deal will make him a free agent after the 2025-26 season.
Although the Spurs already have two promising young players in the backcourt, they made it clear that they want to secure the future of the eight-year veteran.
A Spurs executive told Spotac’s Keith Smith in July. “We think De’aaron is someone who can grow up with our young players and become our real leader. We hope we can make him able to meet him for a long time.”
Fox underwent end-of-season surgery in March
Since Stephon Castle won Rookie of the Year last season and Dylan Harper was selected second in the 2025 NBA Draft, several league insiders questioned whether Fox would win the biggest contract.
The report is no longer relevant, and the All-Star Guard has been committed to San Antonio.
“There is no roster for F,” Fox told ESPN earlier this year. “There is a team. I want to go to San Antonio.”
Fox, who averaged 19.7 points and 6.8 assists in 17 games last season with the Spurs, had end-of-season surgery on March 18 to repair tendon damage in the lower left corner.
Spurs get Foxes from Kings on trade deadline
During training camp in October, he suffered from illness throughout the season. In 62 games between the Spurs and the Kings, Fox averaged 23.5 points, 6.3 assists and 4.8 rebounds per game.
Fox also set a one-game franchise record for the Kings on November 15 when he scored a career-high 60 points in Sacramento’s 130-126 overtime.
Before the trade deadline, San Antonio traded three teams with the Kings and the Chicago Bulls.
Sacramento has won Zach Lavine, Sidy Cissoko and multiple draft picks, while Chicago has acquired Zach Collins, Tre Jones, Kevin Huerter and a first-round draft pick in 2025.
