“Look, I think there’s a lot of work to do in the Saber. I think the management sometimes gets paralyzed by watching some really talented Buffalo Pedace players succeed elsewhere. I think they’re afraid to do the wrong move. I think they’re looking at the collection of the players they’re in front of them and seeing them alone, like they’re seeing, but clearly seeing it, but not done.

I see a team that really needs to make a big change this summer. Apart from moving JJ Peterka, they were forced to do so, and there wasn’t enough change back to the saber, watching them look at them on paper and saying, “Oh, this is a team that can take the next step forward.”

We haven’t seen any progress Lindy Ruff has made in his first year with the team. And I think players may have worn some of them, too. They are the ones who compete there. I think it’s a relatively miserable atmosphere.

They have a lot of pressure to end the playoff drought, some of them have nothing to do with it, I get it. But I think Thanksgiving in late November ends every year, which makes it a hard place to play.

It’s a shame because I think we all hope and take root in the Buffalo Saber to come back. In the NHL, this is a very important market. It hurts me because watching a lot of exciting games and incredible atmosphere in Buffalo is really far from the NHL radar.

Feeling like they need wholesale changes, I don’t advocate for anyone losing their jobs at all. I’m just saying, as an organization, get back on track, because it’s been a long time since we’ve seen Buffalo Saber on track and in competition.
