Cleveland loses CB Martin Emerson Jr.

The 2024 season was a disastrous year for the Browns. After entering the playoffs 11-6 in 2023, Cleveland scored 3-14 in 2024. QB’s turnover is so much that the Browns are competitive.
Brown lost a key defender due to injury during training camp on Tuesday. Due to contactless damage, CB Martin Emerson started small. On Wednesday morning, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport confirmed what Browns fans are worried about. Emerson tore his Achilles and will miss the entire 2024 season.

In the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the Browns chose Martin Emerson Jr. from Mississippi State. As a rookie, Emerson competed in all 17 games and won six games for Cleveland. In 2023, he played 16 of the Browns’ 17 games and played 12 games. The former third-round draft pick ended with four career-high interceptions. Emerson Jr. played all 17 games last season and played 15 games for the Browns.
His 62 solo tackles and three tackle losses are new individual best. The 24-year-old will sign a rookie contract with the Browns for the final season. Unfortunately, Emerson Jr. would miss a full year due to injury. He suffered a ripped Achilles on Tuesday. The young CB is guarding WR Diontae Johnson to run.

In the script, Emerson Jr. suffers contactless damage. He tried to get up but couldn’t get any heavier on his legs. Emerson fell to the ground and threw his helmet in frustration. This is a huge loss for the Browns’ defense. Martin Emerson is their starting CB along with Denzel Ward. The team will not have Emerson Jr.’s service in 2025.
Fortunately, the Browns do have Greg Newsome II, and he can start with the CB. He played 13 games for Cleveland in 2024 and played 3 games. Newsome has played 54 games in four years and the Browns have 42 games. As Newsome switches from Nickel Corner, someone needs to step up their efforts. Cameron Mitchell and Myles Harden will compete for game time. Harden is the seventh round pick in 2024.
