Raptors give up Colin Castleton after NBA Summer League disappointment

The Toronto Raptors abandoned center Colin Castleton, announced in a press release Monday.
Castleton set out from the University of Florida in 2024 and spent a two-way contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, who abandoned him in October before the 2024-25 campaign.
Colin Castleton played for the Grizzlies, Raptors, and Sixers last season
The 25-year-old signed a two-way deal with the Memphis Grizzlies after being exempted from purple and gold. However, it was short-lived as the Grizzlies released him in January.
The former Crocodile then struck two 10-day deals with the Raptors in March before joining the Philadelphia 76ers in early April.
On the last day of the 2024-25 regular season, Toronto re-signed him to a standard contract for two years. Since Castleton’s minimum wage in 2025-26 is not guaranteed, his deal will not violate the Raptors’ cap.
Last season, Castleton averaged 4.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 16.6 minutes of games per game in 26 appearances (four starts) of Memphis, Philadelphia and Toronto, while shooting 46.9%.
Castleton struggles in the 2025 NBA Summer League
When the 76ers lost to the Atlanta Hawks on April 11, the big man scored a career-high 16 points on 6-for-6 (85.7%) from 6-for-7, scoring 4-5 (80%) from the foul line in 25 minutes on the bench.
Castleton was underperforming against the Raptors in the NBA Summer League game when TSN.CA’s Josh Lewenberg posted on X, averaging just 2.6 points, 4.0 rebounds and 11.5 minutes in five games in Las Vegas. He also shot only 33.3% from the field and made 1.8 turnovers per game.
His NBA G League rights are currently controlled by the Orlando Magic, according to Blake Murphy of SportsNet.ca.
With Castleton’s current roster, Collin Murray-Boyles, Jonathan Mogbo and Sandro Mamukelashvili will compete for the frontcourt on the bench.
Raptors have 16 players signed standard contracts
Earlier this month, Raptors and veteran center Jakob Poeltl agreed to a four-year, $104 million extension that would keep the 7-foot contract in the 2029-30 season, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Poeltl will be a free agent after the 2025-26 season, but Charania noted that he chose to choose the $19.5 million option in 2026-27 and add three years to that.
Poeltl, Scottie Barnes, Immanuel Quickley, RJ Barrett and Brandon Ingram have an average annual salary of at least $25 million.
The Raptors have 16 players signed standard contracts, including 14 players in guaranteed deals. Additionally, AJ Lawson signed an unguaranteed contract, and David Roddy is training camp 10 transactions.
Each SpotRac, Toronto’s three two-way attractions have been filled.
