Guardians are on vacation near Emmanuel Clase as part of a gambling investigation

The guardian of Cleveland announced earlier today that three-time All-Star and closing pitcher Emmanuel Clase has been sent to non-discipline paid leave as part of a Major League Baseball (MLB) investigation into sports betting. According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, Clase’s leave is currently scheduled to last August 31.
Clase is the second member of the second guardian due to the investigation. He joined Luis Ortiz, a pitcher who has been on leave since July 3.
“We are informed that no impact on other players or club staff is expected to be affected,” the team said in a statement. “The guardians are not allowed to comment further and as we continue to work fully, the league’s confidential investigation process will be respected.”
Emmanuel Clase has been a member of the Cleveland Guardians since 2021. During his tenure in Cleveland, he was named to three MLB All-Stars and was appointed to the American League of the Year rescuer of the Year in 2022 and 2024.
Huge losses of guardians
It’s a major gut for the guardians of Cleveland, who have tried to drive rock water in rocky waters, as they’ve been without their starting pitcher since Ortiz’s quit. Now, the Guardian will have to try to re-roll three and a half seasons from one of the looks of the playoffs, without arguably the best closing pitcher in the last three years.
It’s not that Cleveland is an offensive swordsman. They ranked 26th in scoring and last in average hit average. They do go in the playoff conversation because they are a stable pitching team (16th in the team era). With Ortiz already gone and the team now losing close range, Cleveland can expect its ERA below 4.00 will start to get higher and higher as the season continues.
This also greatly influenced the team’s trade deadline strategy. If the guardian wants to be a buyer and go all out this season, they will have to add a closing pitcher to their wishlist. Instead, if they want to be the prospect and future considerations of the seller and trader, then they just lose one of the most valuable trades. Clase is the kind of person who might be traded as a good young player. Given that the Mets, Cubs and Yankees have already had bullpen issues, Cleveland could have put it into practice to make their starting lineup better. Now, they have no leverage until the trading deadline.
This could be the nails of the 2025 Cleveland Guardian’s Coffin. Prior to this news, they were a team below .500. With Clase as early as August 31, their game could surpass their initial expectations and be in the playoffs.
Is Emmanuel Clase’s MLB future in danger a future?
It was a terrible look for Emanuel Clase, who wasn’t a professional saint. In 2020, he was suspended throughout the season due to the use of PED. If he had a primitive past, it would have favored his suspicion of this investigation.
I don’t want Emmanuel Clase’s name bessmirch. Major League Baseball is investigating sports betting activities, meaning the league can’t even find any evidence to confirm any misconduct. However, Emmanuel Clase’s recent performance has attracted attention and promised once.
In the 2024 regular season, he is undoubtedly the best close-up in baseball, with a whip of 0.61 and a whip of 0.66. But, in the playoffs, he was frightening, the 9.00 era and the 1.63 whip. These statistics do not confirm that he is guilty of fixing the game to win the bet, but the optics are terrible. It seems terrible when the best close-up in baseball game, getting five runs in 74.1 innings and eight runs in the playoffs.
Again, I want to emphasize that no conclusion was found. Therefore, Emmanuel Clase should be considered innocent until proven guilty. But if Major League Baseball does find him betting on the game, we might witness one of the best closing players since Mariano Rivera retired.
