Washington Open: Emma Raducanu beats Maria Sakkari to enter semifinals

In the hot conditions of Washington, D.C., both Rado Kanu and Sakari worked hard to hold their services during the opening ceremony, while the British switched three of her six breakout points, while her opponent was four.

However, at 4-4, Radanu hit the decisive blow, breaking Sakari’s serve for the third time before switching to the second set point.

The 29-year-old Sakkari, who finished second in the 2023 match, had the chance to bring the match to the decision makers and score two breakthrough points for a 5-2 lead.

However, Raducanu roared with five straight games, including converting two of her five breakout points to 7-5.

She received physiological attention during the second plate and later said she felt “a little shaky” due to the heat.

“Today was cruel,” Ladanu added. “It was a long game, and the first set was over an hour. You just have to enjoy the suffering and leave it all on the court.

“Maria played an incredible match and the situation really suited her.

“I need to prepare [for the doubles] And get rid of the heat. I felt a little swaying in the second set backend. ”

In men’s doubles, Britain’s Neal Skupski and Australian partner John-Patrick Smith came back from the scene to beat fourth seeds Michael Venus and Yuki Bhambri 3-6 6-4 10-7.
