In the 3m Open, this is the crunch time for the Ryder Cup audition

Minnesota’s Brian Ryder Cup Bubble players have a complicated problem. The game chances are exhausted, which means that there are few people who Ryder Cup hopes for have the chance to prove that they deserve to be the Bethpage Black team this fall.
Logic said it’s better to put your head down and start working. Will take good care of yourself as a result, cliche. Simple. Just don’t think about it. Correct?
“You can’t [not think about it],” said Gary Woodland, one of the U.S. vice captains, who is in the 3m Open this week. It’s always in everyone’s mind, especially here. Being one of these 12 is an honor. I’ve been here for 17 years and I’ve only done it once.”
The top six players on the U.S. rankings have finally identified four more games, which will be up to Keegan Bradley and his vice captain to make the captain’s draft pick.
Mavericks McNeley (No. 11), Sam Burns (No. 15), Wyndham Clark (No. 16), Tony Finau (No. 21) and Chris Gotterup (22nd) are a handful of players at this week’s 3m Open, who are fighting for the spots.
Bradley isn’t here, but four of his five vice captains are Kevin Kesner, Webber Simpson, Brandt Sneedk and Woodland.
Woodland said that a group of six (including vice captain Jim Furyk) speaks on their text thread every day, which is aptly named “Ryder Cup.” He loves it. The same goes for Kisner.
Kisner is under 67. “Whatever Keegan needs. I don’t know what deputy captain I’m working on, I just try to help me.”
But first you need a team.
McNealy is the 18th place in the world and is the highest ranked player in the field this week, while the former top-ranked amateurs have not yet become a Ryder Cup or Presidents Cup team. Burns has only four spots behind him, but it may have a slight advantage due to his relationship with Scottie Scheffler. They are the best buds and have experience playing together in the Ryder Cup and the Presidents Cup.
McNeley hasn’t won the championship this season, but runner-up in a stacked Genesis Invitational. He is also sneaky – only 3 layoffs and 6 top 10 in 20 games. He failed to be as low as the rest of the field in the first round of Thursday’s 3m Open (Vev-Par 71), but he would still be in weeks of bubble conversation anyway.
“Obviously there are still a few months left,” Woodland said. “There are a lot of people who still have the opportunity to form a team; we’ll see how things are going.”
If Bradley becomes a team or becomes a captain, the U.S. team may also have potential dilemmas. It’s not news about the U.S. leadership – yes, they’ve already considered that – Bradley finished 30th in the Open Championship, and Bradley was in No. 10 a month after he won the Travelers.
“I was impressed by what he had to deal with,” Woodland said. “I don’t know if there are anyone else in the world who can play the way he does.” [while balancing Ryder Cup duties]. The more I have been involved in the past month and a half, I am impressed by how he plays. ”
After the BMW Championship, the automatic series of the US Ryder Cup team will be set. Bradley will then receive six universal cards after the Tour Championship.
“At the end of the day, you just want to go out and be in the best position every day,” Woodland said. “If you start thinking about winning and start thinking about all of these things, your mind is in the wrong place.”
Good luck.
