Venus Williams is the oldest WTA champion since Martina Navratilova

When asked if she was satisfied with the proverb’s mistake, she said, “No, because I’m not here for anyone other than me.”

“I have nothing to prove.

“I’m here to serve me because I want to be here. Prove anyone wrong or think of anyone who never won, never lost me.”

Williams won 14 majors in doubles with the Serena, and he won a singles match for the last time in August 2023.

Although Williams never said she was retired, she was listed as “inactive” by the WTA after 16 months.

She returned in doubles with fellow compatriot Hailey Baptiste on Monday, who beat Eugenie Bouchard and Clevie Ngounoue 6-3 6-1 in the last 16 shots.

Williams is a former world number one, winning four Grand Slam titles when Stearns was born in 2001.

“She played some balls tonight,” Stens said.

“She’s very good moves, and honestly, I didn’t expect too much. Her service just caught fire.”

Williams will face Poland’s fifth seed Magdalena feature in the second round.
