Emberson played 30 professional games before the trade and was a second-year player for the Oilers, behind Vasily Podkolzin.
The Wisconsin native played 76 games last season, recording 2 goals, 13 points and a 5-pointer. He averaged 15:07 per game with Brett Kulak in third place. They played 574:16 together at 5-5. The only couples who played together were Mattias Ekholm and Evan Bouchard. The 2018 third-round draft pick also spent 150:01 in free throw kills during the regular season, another 17:48 in his nine playoff games.

He is a low risk shutdown defender, so his offense numbers are low. He is a physical guard who ended with 125 hits in the regular season while adding 97 blocks. Emberson was reliable in the defensive zone and won the board battle using his 6-foot-2 frame. He isn’t flashy, but he’s a solid third-type blue line stick with cheap blocks and every organization needs a player like him. He offers solid depth and should have a good chance this season.
Emerson’s overall results
Emberson has encountered several times in four straight games in March this season, postponing Emberson’s depth chart after the Oilers added Jake Walman to the trade deadline. However, the injury to Mattias Ekholm and John Klingberg found his way back to the roster. He is a solid choice with little to be eye-catching – it’s exactly what the team wants from the third-place defensive defender. He did his own work, made few mistakes, and only got better. His play doesn’t have to be bad, but his lack of experience sometimes shows up, and other players provide more quality time. Oilers value the defenders of hockey, and Klinberg meets the bill, which explains why he takes priority over Emberson. Klinberg is no longer on the team. So Emberson will fight Stecher in the top six of the season.
This is Emberson’s first full NHL season, and he follows the ad. He didn’t do much and played a simple game. He was physically, blocked, killed and punished. He lost his position in the playoffs simply because Edmonton upgraded their blue line and when everyone was healthy, he was a weird guy.
Still, he has been a good season, showing his low-point style. therefore, He got C For his overall game. He is not a responsibility, and that’s all you can ask for from players with Emberson’s style and talent. The more he plays, the more comfortable he becomes, and perhaps inflicts more offense. It will be encouraging as he is expected to be part of the Oiler’s future. Management’s goal is to make young, and Emerson is that.
