Zheng Qinwen: Olympic champion after elbow surgery “short break” from tennis

Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen “rests a short break” on the WTA Tour after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow.

The 22-year-old Chinese player was the fifth seed at Wimbledon this year but lost in the first round and said she has been “coordinating the ongoing pain”.

“Start the recovery journey now,” the world’s No. 6 wrote on Instagram.

“In the next few weeks and months, I will be totally focused on recovery – doing everything I can to make it stronger and healthier.

“It’s just a short break and I think it’s a necessary step to take a better version in court.”

Zheng accepted the procedure on Friday and “thanks it for being behind me.”
