The NHL released a 2025-26 schedule on Wednesday, which opened Oct. 7, which included a flag banner ceremony for the Florida Panthers, then they participated in the Chicago Blackhawks, Pittsburgh Penguins with the New York Rangers, and Colorado’s Avalanche plays Los Almes Kings. The Edmonton Oilers will open this season against the Calgary Flames in the first part of the Alberta campaign on October 8.

At this point in the offseason, most teams have taken their moves to improve the roster. Now that everything is calm, the release of the NHL program provides a topic to be discussed as the season approaches. This is a breakdown of Oilers’ 2025-26 schedule.
Oilers’ heavy journey is early
The Oilers’ schedule is tough, which will make it difficult to avoid another bad start to the campaign. Their first two games were at Rogers Place, but 17 of their first 26 games were on the road, including 12 against their Eastern Conference opponents. After their first two home games, they played against the New York Rangers, New York Islanders, New Jersey Devils, Detroit Red Wings and Ottawa Senators for five consecutive times. They then played a long seven-game match from November 12-22 against the Mets Division opponents as well as the Buffalo Saber, the Florida Panthers and the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Last season’s Oilers were on the road for 23-16-2, October and November will be heavy months, which can help them find the rhythm and develop chemistry with new immigrants. It is well known that the team started the season slowly, so these early road trips may improve. A heavy start also means more home games. Edmonton will have a nice eight games from January 18 to February 3, with the match being held at Rogers Place on May 15.
The tanker does not compete in the Eastern Time Zone after Christmas
The Oilers won’t travel eastward in the second half of this season. Their last game in the EST area was against the Boston Bruins on December 18. As the northernmost team in the league, the Oilers already have a tough travel schedule, so ending their Eastern road trip early can help them stay rested, especially as they approach the playoffs.
The Oilers team has 13 back-to-back
The Oilers have 13 sets of back-to-back games, the same as last season. Of these 13 sets, 10 are on the road, and 3 are separated between the home and the outside.
Oilers only have 2 Fridays to compete
Why doesn’t the NHL schedule more Friday games? There is no better way to start a weekend than a hockey game. Unfortunately, the oilers competed in just two games on Friday night, scheduled for a row of weekends in March. The Carolina Hurricane was in town on March 6, and the Oilers headed to the St. Louis Blues on March 13.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins to New Year’s Eve
If he stays healthy, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins will play the 1,000th NHL game against the Bruins on December 31. The Oilers scored 748 points in 959 games in their first draft pick in 2011, the seventh game ever. He is also the third time in the game and will beat 1,000 games for the second time in Ryan Smyth and join Kevin Lowe as the only two players to reach 1,000 games against the organization. If he plays 79 games in 2025-26, he will be the historical leader in the series. Is there a better way to get the new year than celebrating Nugent-Hopkins’ 1,000th game?
The busiest months for oil workers are December and January
The Oilers played 15 games in December and January. They had eight home games and seven road games in December, but the travel schedule was lighter in January, with only four games including two in Western Canada, against the Winnipeg Jets and the Vancouver Canucks.
The NHL will take a break this season when the NHLERS will return to the Olympics for the first time since 2014. The Oilers have a 20-day break in February to compete in the Olympic Games, only five games that month, with only one at home.
