The iconic hole is undoubtedly the 16th, the corner of disaster, its distance, appearance, and it’s all over the round, and in fact, you just have to deal with what was before.
But Portrush is definitely something to remember. There were only 62 bunkers, fewer than any open test, and Shane Lowry managed to get it around under some horrible conditions with the help of 15 of 63 on Saturday.

To stand on the T-shirt here, you will soon learn why this hole was the hardest six years ago. The open T-shirt is nearly 100 yards from the medal and cut into 4-4 corners is 260 yards – it is a member’s 5-but it usually works on southwestern wind teeth.

Head Pro Gary McNeill describes it as “one of the big holes here, probably one of the second shots in golf”, and birdies are definitely rare.
Two fairway bunkers sit at the marking of 300-320 yards, and the fairway on the left bends, so they will lie here. Then the fun really began. Green looks simple on the mastermind, but if the ball is hit, short or long, the ball will be knocked back, and the pig’s back will be knocked back.
If you just find the cliché in the middle of the green work, then here is No. 14.

We’re gone, everyone will talk about the loopholes at the start of the week, and the holes we’ll see the most photos – and the beach/bench combo behind the fourth green.

We haven’t enjoyed the drama of needing a player who needs to win the Open, but we do witness one of Lowry’s celebrations.
Saturday might be better if anything. The right half has two adjacent bunkers, but is overcooked on the left and may have to be reloaded from the tee.
The wise shot is to play those bunkers, knock the tin on the green and sign your card. There is a drop on the left side of the green. Remember, McIlroy needs to spend a weekend, but opening rota will definitely be more difficult.
Fourth Hole – 502 yards – 4 strokes

This is a wonderful driving hole and the most difficult hole for members. Of the 4-shots that have been extensively extended from 2019, the longest is the first nine trickiest holes, and a par here will get you heading to the fifth T-shirt with good spirits.
First, though, there is a pair of bunkers to skirt on the left. Go right and have a chance to hit it. Similarly, the green heart is drama.
A large dune will stop you from seeing the pins on the back left foot, so trust the ground and let the ground work for you. The hole is named after the 1947 open championship from the town.
