“His generation of Canna” wants to join UTD

Back in November 1992, Manchester United completed a £1m signing for striker Eric Cantona, a deal that is certainly one of the best in the club’s history.

The Frenchman managed to score 64 goals in five years in his 143 appearances, but the usual antics without the ball made him called him like he was at Old Trafford.

In the 1994/95 campaign, the attacker’s infamous Kung Fu Kung Fu kicked a supporter of Crystal Palace after being abused after getting a red card.

He was subsequently banned for eight months before returning to the next campaign and spent two years with the Red Devils before heading out in 1997.

But today, thanks to his own antics, owner Ruben Amorim has a chance to land another player marked as an iconic star.

Manchester United hunts new latest window

United have been in contact with signing Chelsea star Nicolas Jackson over the past few days as Amorim hopes to strengthen his frontline by 2025/26.

Senegal International has not bid yet, and he has scored 13 goals in all competitions, but he can be allowed to leave after the arrival of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap.

But, according to Sport Vintess La Nacion, Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez made other moves firmly on their radar.

They claimed that the Argentine international had already joined the Red Devils this summer, and even said he hoped to move to Old Trafford during the off-season.

It also noted that the 32-year-old could charge a fee in the £40 million area of this window, with Unai Emery on the side of the window ready to allow him to set out if they could replace it.

Why Manchester United’s £40m goal is more important than Watkins

Ollie Watkins has been another player in United radar over the past few weeks, and the hierarchy hopes to hand him in the last third of the mass and depth to Amorim.

The 29-year-old has been linked to a £60 million conversion to join the Red Devils window after winning 17 goals with Villas in all matches in 2024/25.

However, it would be a huge investment for a player who is clearly the back end of his career, and if he had been in the club for many years, there would be no resale value.

Other options should be considered in such a department, which may make Martinez a more important addition to the club – especially considering the situation in such a department.

The current No. 1 Andre Onana, who was eliminated from a hamstring injury, may miss the start of the 2025/26 campaign, opening the door to increase investment in this department.

Martinez was posted on “Cantona of his generation” by Sky Sports’ Dougie Critchley, who has been an entertainer during the Premier League and even fought in a notorious battle with striker Neal Maupay.

When comparing his statistics to the Cameroonian last season, Argentina has greatly outperformed his performance in many key areas – highlighting why he is a big addition to Amorim’s side.

The Argentines manage to score fewer goals per 90 games, while also reaching a higher savings percentage, handing the necessary defensive enhancements they desperately need next season to the team.

Martinez has been further impressed recently, with a goalkeeper offering a commander in his box, than last season’s United First season (Amorim).

The 32-year-old is also a two-time FIFA Awards winner, showing his highest performing ability in European football when needed.

This experience may be crucial for clubs’ attempts to challenge the league in Europe again in the near future.

There is no denying that Watkins will put the side in an extra focus, but Martinez will immediately upgrade and resolve the location of the Dream Theatre.
