Jets’ Garrett Wilson creates NFL history after signing a massive contract extension

Prior to the 2025 season, the New York Jets rewarded their top WR with a brand new deal. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Garrett Wilson signed a four-year, $130 million extension.

The soon-to-be-year-old received a $90 million guarantee when signing. This is the fourth place with the most WR contracts. Additionally, Garrett Wilson made NFL history when he signed this expansion with New York. Adam Schefter noted that “the first time in NFL history catcher earned over $31 million in revenue after only three seasons in the game.” It was a huge payday for Wilson.

Garrett Wilson is paid by the Jets like the WR1 in offseason

At the 10th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Jets chose WR Garrett Wilson from Ohio State. Despite the success of New York’s efforts, Wilson produced it on WR. He is one of five players in NFL history, with over 80 catches and over 1,000 catch yards each in each of the first three seasons. He joins Ja’marr Chase, Justin Jefferson, Michael Thomas and Jr. Odell Beckham.

Since entering the league, Garrett Wilson has grabbed the pass from seven different QBs. His most effective season was in 2024 with Aaron Rodgers as the starter. Wilson’s 101 catches ranged from 1,104 yards and seven touchdowns were all new career-highs. In his first three seasons, Wilson showed off elite production even though the QB room was shaky.

That’s why the Jets brought a massive four-year, $130 million extension to Garrett Wilson in the offseason. His average salary of $32.5 million is the fifth highest among Active NFL recipients. However, by signing the deal, Wilson made NFL history. He is the first recipient in NFL history to sign a contract of more than $31 million AAV after their first three seasons.

Garrett Wilson now signs a contract with the Jets in the 2030 season. After many failed attempts in recent history, New York is still looking for their franchise QB. In the 2025 season, the Jets brought free agent QB and former Steeler Justin Fields. Wilson and Fields played for two seasons together at Ohio State. New York wants built-in chemistry between WR and QB. Garrett Wilson shows that he can produce no matter the QB. Along with Davante Adams of Los Angeles, Wilson will become New York’s top choice WR in 2025.
