3 teams related to Karlsson Trade, Jarry Talk and more NHL rumors – Hockey Writers – NHL rumors

In today’s NHL rumors, it feels like Erik Karlsson may have traded from Pittsburgh, but are the three teams mentioned by TSN columnists justified the logic appropriate? Meanwhile, why did an NHL analyst continue to float different goalkeeper options for the Edmonton Oilers? Is there anything in these suggestions? Finally, what does Bowen Byram do in Buffalo’s new expansion in Buffalo do in trade negotiations with Saber and potential trading partners?
Karlsson trade talk surfaces, team among potential suitors in Canada
When Erik Karlsson’s name re-enters the trade rumor factory, TSN’s Travis Yost’s column had identified three Canadian teams – Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers and Ottawa Senators, were the logical destinations for the Penguin Defenders. Toronto and Ottawa have been loosely linked with Karlsson in the past, but Edmonton’s inclusion is fascinating. He was last mentioned on the 2023 deadline, probably on the Oiler radar, but since then, the Oilers have signed a massive extension from Evan Bouchard.
Yost suggested the Oilers could trade a huge deal for struggling Nurse Blueliner Darnell, and then mentioned that Morgan Rielly could go to Pittsburgh with any deal in Toronto. It is important to note that in both cases, players have no trade protection.
The nurse’s cap is $9.25 million, so if Penguin keeps its salary in the Karlsson deal, the deal will only help with the Edmonton cap situation. Karlsson offers more offensive upside—average 70 points per 82 games over the past three seasons), but brings defensive flaws. Even if Pittsburgh retains 50%, Edmonton will still absorb $5 million a year.
If Leafs leave Rielly, Karlsson may be a short-term offensive upgrade. With Leafs’ power going, Mitch Marner disappeared, and Karlsson could help fill the offensive gap.

Yost recommends other logical suitors include Carolina and Florida.
Analysts link oilers to Dipietro’s Jarry
Jeff Marek of the sheets is exploding on the Edmonton Oilers and their goalkeepers. While signs the Oilers will enter the 2025-26 season with their current tandem and new goalkeeper coaches, Marek has mentioned that Tristan Jarry and Michael Dipietro may be targets.
Marek suggests that if the penguin keeps half, the oilman will do the move. At the same time, he also said: “If I were the Edmonton Oilers, at that moment, I saw Michael Dipietro on the waiver and I filed a claim.”
Byram and the logo of saber
Bowen Byram reached a two-year contract with Buffalo Sabers on Monday, ending speculation about trade and rumors that he is looking for a long-term contract in the $9 million range. He signed a two-year contract with the $6.25 million AAV. It will buy his remaining RFA years and take him directly into free agents.
When I posted about the possibility of this situation, Rick Dhaliwal (who broke the signature message for the first time) replied, “This is not a sign and a deal.” Instead, it seems like a “show me” deal that will allow Byram to prove that he is an elite defender. If that happens, he either prioritizes Buffalo, or a big contract, or eventually trades him to the team that prepares him to be number one or two and pays him accordingly.
