NHL Rumors: Ottawa Senator and Winnipeg Jets

Can Ottawa Senators see the expansion of Mason McTavish and Shane Pinto?

Sportsnet’s Alex Adams: Ottawa Senator was able to re-sign Claude Giroux, earned a puck RHD at Jordan Spence, and signed Lars Eller’s 4C. Ideally, they still want to add a winger who scores six points.

One of the Senators who may be interested is Anaheim Ducks RFA forward Mason McTavish. Some people say that both sides may not be happy.

Another offseason priority for the Senators should be the extension of the Shane Pinto Center, who has $3.75 million left. He became a closed center that could score 20 goals. Elliotte Friedman recently said the dialogue between the two sides could be a “fight.” Will Pinto look for bigger roles and more money? Will the $6 million AAV work in the six years of both sides?

Senators can also wish to add some depth to the left side of the blue line and to the net.

Winnipeg Jets should keep a pen

Ryan Dixon from Sportsnet: With the departure of Nikolaj Ehlers, the Winnipeg Jets’ top six holes have a big hole. Although Jonathan Toews’s increase is a potential second-tier center, he may not be seen as a replacement.

The Jets need to sign RFA forward Gabriel Vilardi, while winger Kyle Connor qualifies. Given his history of injury, Veradi’s value is not easy to determine. They wanted to get him to sign before the salary arbitration.

Connor will become the UFA after the next season. He has scored 40 goals twice in five of the past six seasons and has been their leading goal scorer. If you look at the history of the Jets, then in 2023, they shouldn’t be panicked, signing Connor Hellebuyck and Mark Scheifele for a long-term expansion before the season begins.

RFA defender Dylan Samberg also needs a new deal. Forward Adam Lowry will miss the first few months of the season due to offseason hip surgery, and he will enter the final year of his contract.

NHL free agent market has stopped

Jets are unlikely to replace ehlers, but GM Kevin Cheveldayoff will focus on the trade market.
