Wimbledon 2025: Amanda Anisimova

It can take some time to overcome the failure of frustration.

Germany’s Alexander Zverev talked about “losing” after the third consecutive Grand Slam final defeat.

But others – like Jannik Sinner, who lost the classic French Open finals to enter the Wimbledon man’s finals – were able to rebound quickly.

Anisimova, who took a break from the sport to protect her mental health two years ago, might be looking for what she learned during her regular study in the University of California’s psychology business.

She hopes that American writer Marianne Williamson’s famous quote – about how pain “burns you, destroys you or burns you and redeems you” – will help the process.

She will also draw inspiration from Rudyard Kipling’s poems, if – “If you can meet with victory and disaster and treat these two impostors the same,” that is above the entrance to the Central Court.

“I think that sentence is really helpful there and will definitely stay in my mind for the next few days,” she told BBC Sport.

Former world number one Tracy Austin said she hopes Anisimova will recover because of the work she does with her mindset.

“It would be helpful to have people around her people in town,” Austin told BBC Sport.

“She might be able to quickly realize that this is her major final against a former world No. 1, who scored 5-0 in the major final.

“It’s a lot of things for Amanda. Wimbledon adds another 25-30% of the pressure because it’s Wimbledon.”

Anisimova said she never lost the game 6-0 6-0.

“Because it was definitely hard to digest in my first Grand Slam final, but I used to be in a difficult career and I feel like I learned a lot from those moments,” she told BBC Sport.

“The only thing I told myself was to keep my head over and keep fighting because I don’t want to let myself down anytime.”
