About swing weight and the facts that really matter

Spend enough time around the golfer and you end up hearing someone say, “I can feel the difference between D1 and D2.” Hey, maybe they think they can. But, as someone who has been suitable and established for over twenty years, I tell you… I can’t. I make a living by this.
This is not to say that swaying weight is OK. It definitely is-just not the way most golfers think.
The weight of the swing is a measure of feeling. It tells us how the club’s head weight feels relative to the grip and shaft during the swing. That’s it. This is not an exact science, and certainly not the number you should chase or try to “match”.
In fact, if you are in the right state of health, especially in an environment where you are testing the lack of brands of different heads, shafts and grips, you will see a wide variety of swing weights during the meeting. And you may not even notice it.
Why? Because your body doesn’t care about this number. It cares about feeling. and performance.
So, what is the weight of the swing?
Let’s keep it simple: swing weight is not the total weight of the club. This is a measure of the heavy feeling of the head when the club is.
Technically, this is the ratio of weight distribution – how the club balances from the grip to the head – and measures on the scale from A0 to E or something. However, unless you set up a club at your local golf shop or make a bet at your local golf shop, the numbers themselves don’t mean too much.
Swing weight is just one way for club builders and fitters to quantify their feelings. It helps us recreate the feeling you like, so when we assemble your scene we can make all clubs behave similarly. That’s it.

What is the swing weight No Do? Guaranteed performance. If your 7 iron is D2 and your 6 iron is D1, then do you rinse both? Guess what… they are all good. You don’t get extra points for a perfectly matched set on your card.
Anyway, everything is moving
Now, this is a part that most golfers don’t realize: the swing weight is constantly changing during your match. You are swapping heads, testing different axes, trying new grips, all of which affect the swing weight:
– The weight of the head varies by model, loft and interior design
– Axis have different weights and different balance points
– The grip has a large weight range, even within the same size
– Length: longer clubs feel heavier, shorter clubs feel lighter
Yes, if you’re trying to use five different combinations, you’ve also hit five different swing weights. Have you noticed it? Probably not. You noticed that it felt good. You notice what is better at launching the ball, what sounds, sounds and feels right. This is important. This number is just the math behind the feeling.

2 biggest club killers
Wondering how golfers unknowingly mess up swing weight after installation – completely changing the feel of the club?
1
If you don’t pay attention, changing the grip will definitely ruin the club feel. Here’s why: Every 5 grams of grip weight will reduce the weight of the swing by about 1 minute. So if you fit the standard 50g tour velvet and you can swap in 66g MCC plus 4 medium size without telling the builder, you just lowered the swing weight over 3 minutes. Now, the head will feel relaxed, the burden of the swing will change, and it doesn’t feel like the club you fall in love with in the accessories.
2. length
About 3 swing points are added or subtracted every half inch of the club length. Meaning, if you cut the driver down for “control” and throw it away on heavier grip, it may reduce the swing weight by 6 or 7 points. It’s a completely different feel and performance club…whether you plan to do it or not.
And what is worth it? Most players do not have a 1-point difference. Some people don’t even feel a 3 or 4. But they know when the club feels wrong. And it’s usually nothing to do with the numbers; they just know it doesn’t sway.
first. Then build around it
Let’s be clear: weight is important. But it doesn’t make every club in your bag have to be D2. It is important to see which weight can help you find the center of your face more often. Once it is found, we match it. We built it. That’s where the swing weight is valuable. This is the result, not the starting point.
If you hit the best shot with a club that happens to be a D0 or a D5, it is the weight of your swing. Stick with it until your game or body tells you it’s time to make changes. And if you need grip or length adjustments, do it with the fitter, as a little change can quietly undo a perfect club.
