Callaway Apex AI150 Irons | 4 Things to Know

Callaway replaced its popular Apex Pro Player Distance Iron, appearing in the form of the new Apex AI150.

The new Apex AI150 iron builds the release of Callaway’s fully forged Apex AI200 and AI300, but the profile is actually created by Apex TCB Tour Iron, rather than shrinking the larger model.

Here are four things to know, my thoughts on the new Callaway Apex AI150 iron.

1. Find the best point (player)

The Apex AI150 was added to the Callaway lineup, which now includes 16 current SKUs, but actually managed to fill a hole.

Previous Apex Pro is looking for players that are more forgiving than the Apex TCB or X Forged model, but don’t want to go all the way to AI200.

“The AI150 is the younger brother of the AI200 and AI300 that we launched last fall,” Zack Oakley, senior product manager at Callaway, told Golf. “It will be your unit number to the middle digit golfers, who don’t have to look for distance, but they don’t want to give up on distance either. Until now, they had to either play 200, which could make them a little too big or too powerful for them.

“So it’s a kind of technology under the hood to keep distances, but it’s really about precise, consistent gaps.”

2. Starting big things from a young age

Previously, when Callaway created Apex Pro as a player’s distance iron, they narrowed down the game’s improved irons (in this case AI200).

However, realizing that many elite players and professionals are using Apex Pro as a long-term replacement for kits like Apex TCB, Callaway started with the TCB profile this time and made it bigger.

“You know, that’s going to give us one of the hardcores we play the most on the tour,” Oakley said. “But there’s more time in things that are easier to hit. It looks more friendly.”

3. Three hole evolution

Like the X Forged and X Forged Max models released earlier this week, the new AI150 has a three-hole design and has leading edge reliefs to enhance turf interactions.

“This is a feature for us, and we have proven time and time again that it can help players get in and out of the turf without digging,” said Brian Williams, vice president of R&D Callaway. “There are some early bounce effects that just help players get through the turf effectively. We’ve seen players become more confident, which often increases the potential for speed and distance.”

4. AI design technology

Just like its big brother in the AI200 and AI300, the new AI150 is made of the same 1025 forged hollow chassis, in 3-7 iron, 455 forged steel faces in 3-7 seats, and 17-4 faces in 8i through wedges in 8i.

It also leverages AI10X facial technology present in Callaway’s siblings and the Elyte driver family to create variable thickness designs and promote consistent ball speeds throughout the face.

My thoughts!

AI150 proves several things about Callaway.

First, they go all out to provide iron for all kinds of golfers. While the AI150 does fill a hole in the lineup left by previous Apex Pro, it’s a hole between the players’ iron.

If you are a player-range player, you can now choose to use the maximum value of X forged, the distance to fusion with TI or the feeling of fusing both with the AI150.

Not only will the AI150 be a complete set of Excel, but it will also be very useful to players with the rest of the TCB or AI200 (AI200), as the combination suite is more important, like today’s exceptions.

Secondly, Callaway not only has to have an iron for everyone, but also provides a unique design for everyone. The three-hole on the AI150 isn’t exactly the same as the X-forged, which gives one the option to choose between the two and is obviously different from the Ti Fusion.
