Wimbledon 2025: Iga Swiatek defeats Liudmila Samsonova to enter semifinals

Former world No. 1 Iga Swiatek showed off her fighting qualities, standing out in the second set, beating Liudmila Samsonova to her first Wimbledon semifinal.
Pole won the game 6-2 7-5 and will next face Russian teenager Mirra Andreeva or Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic in the final.
Swiatek, 24, said: “It feels great.
“I’m really working hard to improve on this surface. I’m going to work with it and myself this year.”
Swiatek enjoyed her best on the grass in her eighth win in 2025, the most she has managed in a season.
She seemed to peak at the right time when she chased the first Wimbledon title, although there were sometimes some unstable hits in the second set that would remind her that she couldn’t let her defender bid for a sixth Grand Slam title.
After running the first set in 38 minutes, Swiatek received an early break in the second match when he was two second double failures, and it seemed that she would make progress just as quickly.
But with the breaks swap, both players made mistakes, Swiatek wasted three match points and missed the opportunity to master control of the second set.
But she opened up the quality when it mattered, winning and passing by 6-5 again.
