Golf Business News – La Cala expands golf products with new 9-hole short course

La Cala Resort is pleased to announce that its fourth golf course, the brand new La Cala Short course, dedicated 9-hole par 3 layout, will be open on Friday, July 4, 2025.

Located near the resort’s golf academy and driving range, the new course has been carefully designed to meet the growing demand for faster, more flexible gaming formats while retaining the quality, scenic and strategic interest La Cala enjoys.

La Cala short courses replace the resort’s former 6-hole loop and have been completely reimagined to provide a complete short gaming experience in a picturesque time-efficiency format. The layout features an elevated T-shirt, Mediterranean view and a natural blend with the rolling Mijas landscape. It will attract families, juniors, beginners and experienced players to seek a quick but meaningful round.

“Our vision is to create an accessible, fun course designed to reflect how people interact with golf today,” said Sean Corte-Real, general manager of La Cala Resort. “Guests are increasingly looking for ways to enjoy games in a shorter time frame, and this new course allows them to do that without compromising entertainment or quality.”

Designed with diversity and playability in mind, the new course offers a wide variety of vulnerabilities that challenge creativity and shooting. It is also suitable for newcomers to learn games, juniors develop their skills, or advanced players perfect their wedge matches and short-term match accuracy.

The opening of short courses reflects the wider sport in the golf industry, with leading resorts in Europe and North America responding to players’ demand for more accessible and diverse game choices. In La Cala, the new course complements the three-person championship 18-hole layout, Campo USA, Campo Asia and Campo Europa, each champion has a unique golf test in some of the most dramatic terrain in southern Spain. The brief course is also the first phase of the college’s ambitious upgrade program, which will be transformed into a dedicated “golf hub” with the second phase set to be completed in 2026.

The brief course will also be a valuable extension of La Cala teaching and practical facilities. It is very close to golf academies and driving ranges, making it perfect for course coaching, warm-up classes and game-focused clinics.

Visitors to La Cala will also enjoy the resort’s 4-star hotel, a full-service spa, a fitness center and several dining options, all located in the heart of Costa del Sol. The resort has been nominated for Spain’s best golf hotel at the 2025 World Golf Awards and is known for providing a complete and outstanding golf vacation experience.

“We think golf should be inclusive, adaptable, and most importantly enjoyable,” Corte-Real added. “This new course embodies these values and provides us with a unique opportunity to introduce more people to the game, support skill development, and provide memorable experiences, whether it’s your first round or one percent of yours.”

For players seeking a modern, memorable way to enjoy the golf course, the La Cala Short course promises a new experience.
