Spain enters the quarterfinals as Portuguese salvage point against Italy

The Spanish world champions took a spot in the knockout round of the Women’s European Championship, and they beat Belgium 6-2.
La Roja was a favorite to lift the trophy and emphasized this position with a stressful victory, confirming Belgium’s withdrawal from the competition.

Spain’s position in the final eight games was confirmed to be a dramatic draw between Portugal and Italy 1-1.

Portugal captain Ana Borges was sent off in the 96th minute after receiving a second yellow card for a foul on Italy’s Barbara Bonansea, but Azzurri couldn’t find a winner.
The result allowed Portugal to continue to advance to the quarter-final hopes, but they had to beat Belgium and hope Italy lost to Spain with a 7-goal difference in goal to get it into the knockout stage.
